May is nearly here, and with TNR efforts in full swing and 'Kitten Season' upon us, BCC is busier than ever!

The Importance of TNR

Our founder Alysia is out almost daily trapping feral cats, and of course discovering the litters of kittens produced by uncontrolled colonies of feral cats. Well-meaning folks in neighborhoods often feed the cats, but the cats continue to breed, and often overwhelm the neighborhood. BCC gets requests for help every week for cats and kittens living in desperate situations.

BCC networks with many local cat rescues and local government shelters that struggle every year to handle the Spring influx of kittens from TNR sites.

Welcome Our New Board Member!

BCC is thrilled to introduce Jeanie Nesbit as our newest Board Member.

Jeanie resides in Harford county with her family, and has known BCC Founder Alysia for over 12 years. She brings years of professional and charitable experience to BCC, along with her energy and passion for helping worthy causes. She is experienced and creative at all areas of fundraising and events.

Jeanie serves as General Manager of Pappas Restaurant and Sports Bar in Parkville, where she brings a passion for hospitality to her role. 



She previously served on the Board of Advisors for the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and has held officer roles with the Friendly Daughters of St. Patrick of Maryland, the Highland Society of Harford County, and the Mark Pappas Foundation. In addition, she is a member of the Police Emerald Society of Baltimore, and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 39, reflecting her continued support for community and public service initiatives.

We look forward to working with Jeanie as BCC continues to grow and improve its services to the cats and communities of Baltimore.

BCC Goes High Tech on TNR

The hardest part of TNR is in the first letter T - trapping!

Our founder Alysia has been trapping for years and continues to be amazed at how smart the cats can be at evading her best efforts. The traps are often placed at locations that are difficult to observe from a distance, but walking around to check the traps alerts the cats. So what's a girl to do?

Go high tech and get a portable monitoring video camera system of course.

BCC purchased a "Stealth Cam" to help with TNR and we are so pleased with it we want to share the info. BCC uses the camera system for TNR, but we think any folks that like to monitor wildlife, even in their own back yard, will enjoy it.

StealthCam.com markets their products for hunters and outdoorsmen, so the product is sturdy, durable, and weatherproof. We purchased the Revolver 2.0 camera, and so far it is amazing.

The video camera will cover 360 degrees, uses infrared to detect any moving creatures, and connects via cell service to an app on a phone. It notifies the user when motion is detected, sends pictures, or a video, and allows a live streaming connection to see what's going on. It has tons of settings to control it, and it is reasonably priced. BCC purchased the camera and the stand for under $180 on sale, and basic cell service is as low as $5/ month.
