MESSAGE FROM THE BC CHIEF VETERINARIAN
Effective June 5, 2024, the Chief Veterinarian has removed
General Order AIV 2023-03 (PDF, 246 KB).
This order required all persons responsible for chickens and turkeys in operations regulated by the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Commission, BC Chicken Marketing Board, BC Egg Marketing Board, and BC Turkey Marketing Board, and who hold quota from their Marketing Board or Commission to keep their poultry indoors.
Diligence in applying biosecurity measures remains the most important tool in preventing poultry flocks from contracting avian influenza.
It is essential that producers continue to maintain on-farm biosecurity at all times, even after the lifting of the order.
Bird owners are legally responsible to notify authorities of serious bird diseases such as bird flu. Do not take sick birds off the property.
If you suspect birds you own have AI:
- Call your veterinarian
- Contact your nearest Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Animal Health office
- Call the BC Animal Health Centre at 1-800-661-9903
