BC CHICKEN MARKETING BOARD

 FINAL LONG-TERM PRICING RECOMMENDATION

The pricing formula to set the minimum live price of BC chicken has been under a Supervisory Review of BC FIRB since May 2019. The BC Chicken industry has been waiting for resolution on the pricing formula for well over 5 years. The Chicken Board finished consultation with industry to create a long-term pricing formula and a recommendation was submitted to the BC FIRB on October 30, 2023. The Chicken Board had proposed a BC Cost of Production (COP) Model which has been

approved by the BC FIRB as of May 22, 2024

The new COP will be phased in over 6 periods beginning in A-190.

Further details will be released in the coming weeks as the Board begins its implementation process. The Board will plan a virtual Townhall in the coming weeks to further discuss the implications of the approved long term pricing formula as well as the Boards 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. Stay tuned for an invitation to that meeting.

Thank you to all industry and grower representatives who participated and contributed to this COP pricing formula.

BCCMB STRATEGIC PLAN

In January 2024, the management team, Board and industry members met for a strategic planning workshop.

This was followed with the Board and senior staff further articulating the strategic plan.

In the previous month there was a survey of stakeholders,

to gather their input.

The process taken to articulate BCCMB strategies was to first identify the desired future (vision, mission and desired future), then assess the current situation (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, trends, and shifts and what BCCMB is doing well, need to do differently, start doing, and stop doing). With that we can then identify issues that need more clarity and resolution and enable the development of the Strategic Priorities to address the issues and critical priorities of BCCMB which become the focus

of the strategic plan.

The Board and staff then developed key priorities, goals, objectives and metrics for the various focus areas.

Vision

An innovative, growing, and sustainable chicken industry.

Mission

Engage with stakeholders to lead a growing chicken industry while enhancing public trust.

CgFARAD™ & EXTRA-LABEL USE

Where licensed products for a species or a specific condition are not available, veterinarians are legally permitted to prescribe drugs extra label for disease indications, doses, or durations of treatment that differ from the drug labelling approved by Health Canada.

However, extra-label drug use means that label withdrawal times for meat, milk, or eggs no longer apply. In these situations, veterinarians will obtain a withdrawal recommendation from CgFARAD™ and a CgFARAD™ number will be provided on the feed slips from the feed mill or on the vet prescription.
