The final countdown to the Certified Concrete Pump Operator regulatory deadline is on...
In June, WorkSafeBC sent out a friendly reminder letter to all concrete pump industry stakeholders regarding operators who haven’t yet received their Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO) certification. Operators have until January 1, 2024 to do so — after that, it will be illegal for any uncertified person to operate a concrete pump in BC.
Employers are responsible for ensuring their workers comply with this important safety requirement if they own, coordinate work with, or operate equipment. Though most operators have already complied, many operators still haven’t obtained certification during this grace period.
There’s still time for everybody to become certified if they want to continue working as a concrete pump operator. Successful applicants must pass a written and a practical exam. Leaving it to the last minute could see operators sidelined from their jobs until they meet the legal requirements.
Get the ball rolling today — register by visiting the BCCSA’s CCPO website at
www.ccpo.ca. If you know someone who needs to be aware of the CCPO deadline, share the WorkPlaceBC letter with them using this link.
As an umbrella organization uniting 13 construction safety organizations across all provinces and territories, the CFCSA directly benefits employers by promoting awareness of construction health and safety practices and programs, sharing information, and producing workplace health and safety training, standards and information resources.
In addition, the CFCSA oversees national programs such as the COR® accreditation standard, and the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) and National Health and Safety Administrator (NHSA™) designation programs — as it works to harmonize them across Canada.
