Leaping into February
February happens to fall on a leap year in 2024, giving us all a bonus day to get things done before the end of the month — with so many construction projects on the go, it looks like contractors can use it.
If you haven’t already checked out the new BCCSA website, we invite you to take a look. It’s been redesigned from top to bottom to make the site easier to navigate, easier to read, and easier to search. In addition, you’ll find a lot of new multimedia content. We believe the new design helps achieve our mandate of making safety simpler. Tell us what you think!
It’s been one month since the January 1, 2024 deadline for certification of asbestos abatement workers and concrete pump operators so that they can remain compliant with current regulations. If workers haven’t yet been certified, they should register as soon as possible to minimize disruption to employment and work schedules. Asbestos workers can apply for certification under the BCCSA’s Asbestos Control Training program. Concrete pump operators can register for Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO) certification at www.ccpo.ca.
The BCCSA is also excited to announce a new mental health training program designed to support employers looking for resources to address workplace mental health needs. Designed for construction supervisors and managers, the training program will consist of an online course and an in-person workshop available at various locations for groups as large as 24 participants. We anticipate a high demand for this program, which will be available on a first come, first served basis.
