Spring is almost here and new concrete pump operator regulations are on the way!
Three signs that spring is almost here: warmer days, budding flowers, and construction equipment moving out of hibernation. It’s shaping up to be a busy season for construction across the province. Let’s use all the tools we have at our disposal to ramp up safely!
Here’s a gentle reminder that provincial regulations will require all concrete pump operators to be certified by January 1, 2024. That deadline is only 10 months away, so there’s still time for operators to be certified under BCCSA’s Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO) program. Join more than 100 operators who have already been certified to recognize the technical expertise they bring to a demanding job.
We’d also like to call everyone’s attention to two important BCCSA events happening this month:
Our Eat & Greet Langley Outreach Event is being held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm for BCCSA contractor members and their employees. And yes, we welcome last-minute registrations. Meet us at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre Langley (Ballroom), 20393 Fraser Highway, Langley, BC, for an evening of food and hospitality, and the opportunity to meet the BCCSA’s executive team, its Board of Directors and fellow members.
And on March 7, we invite you to an event presenting the surprising preliminary findings from Blueprint for Action. This joint research effort by the BCCSA and the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction at Simon Fraser University integrates data collected from 639 construction workers and 35 senior industry leaders to develop evidence-based programs targeting substance use disorders. Register now and join us from 7:30 am - 9:30 am at Trev Deeley Motorcycles (Conference Room), 1875 Boundary Road, Vancouver, BC to discuss opportunities for action and help inform next steps for research.
We also invite you to meet some fresh faces, including our new Regional Safety Advisors. And check out this profile for our new Health & Safety Coordinator, Marta Spira, where you can learn about the science of paleolimnology.
