BC's Construction Health & Safety Association
Thanks for supporting this year’s BC Construction Health and Safety Conference

We’d like to thank the attendees, speakers, exhibitors and sponsors who all contributed to the success of the BC Construction Health and Safety Conference held October 19th and 20th at the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel in Vancouver.

The conference was attended by more than 240 people who enjoyed a series of high-energy speakers, informative educational sessions, a sold-out trade show and numerous opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas.

If you haven’t done so already, be sure to collect the 4.0 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points offered to conference attendees by BC Housing Licensing and Consumer Services.

We’re already hard at work planning another exciting conference program for 2024.

We couldn’t let this issue go by without reminding the BC construction sector about the approach of January 1, 2024, now just weeks away.

On that day, regulations will require all asbestos abatement contractors to be registered and licensed with WorkSafeBC and require all asbestos workers to be certified. Regulations will also require all concrete pump operators to be certified. Asbestos abatement businesses must be certified to continue operating, and uncertified workers in either trade will be considered non-compliant if they attempt to work.

Asbestos abatement contractors can register for free with WorkSafeBC through this website. Asbestos abatement workers or those likely to encounter asbestos as a result of their work can register for the BCCSA’s WorkSafeBC-approved training program here.

The BCCSA is also the certifying partner for the only WorkSafeBC-recognized concrete pump operator certification program available in the province. Workers can register for the Certified Concrete Pump Operator (CCPO) program at www.ccpo.ca.

We’re still looking for seasoned asbestos abatement experts to evaluate the practical safety skills of asbestos workers. You can apply for a BCCSA Assessor position here.

As always, we welcome your feedback!
BCCSA's Safety Climate Tool is the free program that keeps on giving...
For the past decade, the BCCSA has offered its members the Safety Climate Tool (SCT): a way to measure what workers think about safety culture in their company at any moment in time, so that employers can focus on the most effective changes to improve safety.

The SCT uses an anonymous employee survey that converts results into a measure of their perceptions of eight factors:
1. Organizational Commitment
2. Health and Safety Oriented Behaviours
3. Health and Safety Trust
4. Usability of Procedures
5. Engagement in Health and Safety
6. Peer Group Attitude
7. Resources for Health and Safety
8. Accidents and Near-Miss Reporting.
