SUMMER 2017
Dear Friends,

We are pleased to be sending you the 2017 summer edition of "The Contributor," our electronic newsletter.  Stories in this issue highlight some of the activities that have been going on at the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation the past few months.

Recently, I discovered a children's book titled "Farmer Herman and the Flooding Barn." It is a story about a farmer whose barn is in a low spot and constantly floods most every time the rain comes.  As the tale unfolds, Farmer Herman comes up with a plan to rectify the situation.  Short of money, he enlists the help of 344 neighbors and friends to pick up the barn and move it to higher ground by hand.  The best part of the book is that it is based on a true story!

The best part of working at the BCH Foundation is interacting with the countless individuals who are willing to lend a hand and collectively "move a barn" now and then. Sometimes the barns are big and sometimes they are small, but because of generous folks like you, they always seem to get moved.

Thank you for being a "contributor" and an important partner in our efforts!  Enjoy reading about all the good things that have been happening.

Gratefully,

Sam Rennick
Intensifying the Impact
Employee Campaign Sets Giving Record
The BCH Foundation recently held its fourth annual employee giving campaign, "Give from the Heart." The campaign kicked off the week of May 8 - 12, in conjunction with National Hospital Week, and concluded on Friday, June 9 with a fiesta celebration that featured nachos and mocktail margaritas.
This year a new record total of over $23,000 was raised to help support Employee Scholarships, the Employee Crisis Fund, and continue to fund areas of Greatest Need that benefit patients and families. Campaign Co-chairs for 2017 were Dave and Susan Thomas.

Centurian Cup Challenge Golf Tournament
A total of 128 golfers participated in the Centurian Cup Challenge golf tournament held on Friday, May 12 at the Beatrice Country Club. Co-presenting sponsors for the tournament were Edward Jones Investments and Pinnacle Bank/Pinnacle Trust Services. The Centurian Cup  Challenge is now in its fifth year.  Proceeds are being used to support the Emergency Department.   Visit the Centurian Cup Challenge webpage!
Helicopter Golf Ball Drop
This year's Centurian Cup Challenge Golf Tournament featured a "helicopter golf ball drop."  Golfers and other generous supporters of the BCH Foundation purchased a total of 450 golf balls which were dropped from a helicopter on to a target painted on the eighteenth fairway. The three balls falling closest to the "bulls-eye" were the lucky winners!  First prize was a Grand Slam Blaz'n Grill valued at over $1,200 and donated by Mark and Kathy Setzer, with second and third prizes being $500 and $250 respectively.
Centurian Dinner Held - May 18, 2017
The Centurian Dinner, an annual gathering to recognize and thank supporters of the BCH Foundation, was held on Thursday, May 18 at the Beatrice Holiday Inn Express Conference Center. In addition to hearing Dr. Steven Paulmeyer, MD speak about Beatrice Internal Medicine's plans to create a "patient centered medical home," attendees also helped recognize several new Centurians Forever. Visit this webpage to see the Centurian Annual Report!
Our Hospice nurses, Terri and Angie are many of the volunteers helping with this event.
