Dear Hotel Community,
Last week we announced the results of our
recent pulse check
that offered a sobering look at the current and future state of our industry. Our partnership with STR, benchmarking the hotel sector around the world, confirms the provincial round up stats you reported last week.
Please note, STR reporting predominately pulls data from larger properties, or chains and branded properties; the organization holds significant opportunity for increasing the reporting and thereby providing supportive education on Revenue Management for recovery strategies for our industry. This will be a key focus for the BCHA in the coming months, working hand in hand with the Regional Secretariat.
At a glance, June provincial results indicate that:
- June 2020 occupancy was 30.2%, down 62.3% from June 2019
- June ADR was $129.10, down $99.12 or 43.4% from June 2019
- June RevPar was $38.97, versus $182.69 June 2019.
This
article from the Canadian Business Development Bank provides an overview of the state of the industry and some key messaging regarding recovery, which is outlined further below.
In addition, we also received results from an
industry pulse check
conducted by The BC Chamber of Commerce, Greater Vancouver Board of Trade and the Business Council of British Columbia, which garnered insights from the business community at large. Across the province, 75% of the business community indicated that a decreased sales volume was making the biggest impact to revenue loss.
While we continue to see the disheartening impacts that COVID-19 pandemic has had on our industry and sectors across the province, we carry on advocating for the issues that matter most to you and look to provide the tools needed for recovery.
Finally, thank you to those who joined our recent webinar on 'Optimizing Buildings for Energy Efficiency During and After a Pandemic'. For those who missed it you may watch the webinar recording at
