Words from Dana
Welcome to the Autumn 2018 issue of the BCHF newsletter. This is my third newsletter intro, and I’d like to start by saying how much I am loving what we are doing together as a hospitality community. It is incredibly rewarding to have a leadership role in an organization that delivers on its promise to help people, and gives back to the industry that’s so important to the province of British Columbia. The more I get to know our volunteers, industry partners, and donors, the more impressed I am by their generosity and can-do attitude.

One million reasons to smile

Earlier this month the BCHF reached a significant milestone: we have now given away a total of $1 million. In only 12 years, we’ve provided financial assistance to almost 200 individuals facing financial crisis due to extraordinary medical circumstances. We’ve supported hospitality workers from many areas of the province, including the interior (Kamloops, Kelowna) and Vancouver Island (Nanaimo, Victoria), as well as the lower mainland. Although the majority of our beneficiaries come from the restaurant, pub, and hotel sectors, we’ve also provided essential funds to people associated with breweries and wineries, as well as members of the media related to hospitality.

Industry Partner news
Tourism Vancouver and Tourism Victoria are two of the BCHF’s most cherished industry partners, and we want to help spread the word about some exciting changes taking place at the organizations. Both agencies have recently undertaken a re-branding process, complete with attractive new logos.

Our very own beer

We’re excited to announce that the BCHF will receive proceeds from the sale of a special BC-made craft beer being released later this month.   The beer will celebrate October’s BC Craft Beer Month and is a collaboration between BREW HALL Beer Co., IMS Labels, Phillips Brewing & Malting Co., and West Coast Canning. Officially it is a Triple Dry-Hopped Lager Collaboration Brew. It will be available on draught at Tap & Barrel and BREW HALL and in tall boy cans through Phillips Brewing and select retailers around the province.

Matching Fundraisers

The BCHF was founded on the idea that we in the hospitality industry would work together to help our own. Two fundraisers this summer are a perfect example of this idea. Both events were organized by the friends and colleagues of people in need, and the BCHF matched funds raised to a pre-agreed maximum amount.

About the BC Hospitality Foundation
The (BCHF) is a registered charity that raises funds to support those in the hospitality industry facing financial crisis due to a health issue. Each year hundreds of hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges and have nowhere else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted. In addition, the BCHF offers a scholarship program to foster the development of the next generation of workers and industry leaders.
