Professional Development Day

SEPTEMBER 26

BCPS is pleased to offer an engaging day of professional learning on September 26! This document outlines the high-level description for each session including the outcomes, audience, and time and includes information such as Schoology join codes and Microsoft Links as needed.


All teachers are required to register for Professional Study Day in the Registration System. Elementary teachers participating in the MyView Literacy Pilot will register for two separate sessions: one for MyView Literacy training and one for additional content sessions.


ESPBC staff are invited to join sessions for the content they support as appropriate. When not engaged in content professional development, staff are encouraged to work on completing your assigned Safe Schools trainings. In addition, ESPBC staff are invited to participate in online modules and optional discussion groups.

New Bedford Elementary School Groundbreaking

Yesterday BCPS leaders, members of the Board of Education, and state and county officials gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new replacement Bedford Elementary School. The project will more than double the school's capacity and is scheduled to open to students in 2024. • Public Safety Day on Saturday, September 24

 

BCPS staff, students, and their families are invited to join the Baltimore County Police & Fire Departments, along with the Police Community Relations Council, for Public Safety Day. This day of public safety-related displays and community resources will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at 2333 Eastern Boulevard, in Middle River. Admission and parking are free at this event.

• Last Call: Virtual Learning During Inclement Weather Days Survey

 

MSDE has provided local school systems with an opportunity to use virtual inclement weather days throughout the year. The 2022-2023 school calendar includes 5 inclement weather days. As we plan for winter weather this year, BCPS would like to know your preferences.


Please complete this survey by Friday, September 23, 2022.

• Student Member of the Maryland State Board of Education Application

 

Applications for the Student Member of the Maryland State Board of Education are currently open. Each public high school in Maryland is invited to nominate one student for this position.


Please read the SMOB Application Packet for details, including a letter for both principals and students outlining the process. Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on November 14, 2022.

• Open Enrollment to Begin October 15

 

2023 Open Enrollment will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022. All elections made during open enrollment will be effective January 1, 2023.

CELEBRATING COMMUNITY SCHOOL COORDINATORS

 

BCPS joins MSDE in celebrating Community School Coordinators, who ensure students & families receive the supports and services they need to learn and thrive.


Currently, BCPS receives the Maryland State Blueprint for Maryland's Future Concentration of Poverty (COP) Grant and works in partnership with the Y in Central Maryland to implement the Community School Initiative. Learn more on the BCPS Community Schools webpage.

ENHANCING SAFETY AT BCPS ATHLETIC EVENTS

 

BCPS is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all staff, students, and spectators participating in athletic events. Effective Friday, September 23, 2022, several changes will go into effect to enhance safety.

INTERPRETING SERVICES FOR BCPS SCHOOLS AND OFFICES

 

BCPS provides qualified interpreters who are available for onsite and video remote interpreting to help the communication between school staff and families who have limited English proficiency. We continue to expand our list of interpreters to accommodate more languages.

BCPS school nurses, assistants to receive special "Stop the Bleed" lifesaving training in Sept. 26 sessions

 

About 170 BCPS school nurses and 80 medical assistants will receive special training during a session sponsored by the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Learn more in a BCPS media advisory.
