A NEW SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS

Thursday August 18th

Superintendent Matt Turner's Welcome Back To School message

Schools have been holding Open House events in the days prior to the first day of school.

Below we captured elementary students enthusiastically entering their new school either for the first time or returning with their parents to see what's new. We even found School Board Chair Julia Pile visiting several schools during Open House

Schools Meal Program Changes

The federal government allowed schools to offer free meals to all students during the pandemic, but Congress did not extend this benefit for next school year. Families that are eligible for free or reduced-price meals MUST APPLY to receive them, and all other students must pay full price for their meals. The application process for free and reduced-price is open now for Boone County Schools and parents can click here to complete the application online.

Follow our Food Services Department on Facebook or check out our  Food Services Department page for additional information throughout the year.

Teacher Award

The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc. announced this summer the selection of 24 outstanding Kentucky educators as recipients of the 2023 Valvoline™ Teacher Achievement Awards. These teachers qualify to compete for the 2023 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced in September. One of the 24 is from Boone County Schools.

Congratulations to Shannon Kay from New Haven Elementary School!

All 24 teachers will be honored during a ceremony in Frankfort on Sept. 20th. At that time, the Kentucky Elementary, Middle and High School Teachers of the Year will be announced. From this group of three finalists, the 2023 Kentucky Teacher of the Year will be named and will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition.

Valvoline will present the 24 recipients with cash awards. In addition, the three Kentucky Teachers of the Year will receive custom-designed glassware commemorating their accomplishments.
