SUPERINTENDENT'S DISTRICT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM FOR 2023-2024 GETS UNDERWAY

The 2023-2024 school year welcomes the first class of the Superintendent's District Ambassador program (SDAP). The first class of this 9 month program started with the Transportation Department. Parents and Community members selected for Mr. Turner's Ambassador Program will spend the school year learning about the different Boone County School district departments and how together they contribute to the operation of the district. The Transportation session was led by Transportation director Bob Barrix. He provided valuable information on transportation decision making processes, the needs of school transportation, how a shortage of bus drivers has a ripple effect. Mr. Barrix explained double and triple runs and how they cause students to be late to school and late getting home. There was a tour of the transportation garage and Mr. Barrix saved the best for last, a school bus driving lesson. He allowed parents, who never have driven a bus, to drive a school bus on the premises. See the pictures below.

*Potential Ambassadors are selected by the Superintendent. The next SDAP class starts in July of 2024. If you would like to become an Ambassador next year please email [email protected]

TRANSPORTATION OPEN HOUSE

VISITORS DRIVE A SCHOOL BUS

The Boone County Schools Transportation Department recently held an Open House accepting job applications from many visitors. The event allowed anyone in the community to come check out the department and even get a very basic school bus driving lesson. Assistant Superintendent of Operational Services Kim Best, Executive Director of Student Services Kathy Reutman and Board Member Cindy Young joined visitors. Mrs. Best and even the wife of Transportation Director Bob Barrix received their own school bus driving lesson. Local reporters from Channels 9 Madeline Ottilie and Annie Brown from Channel 12 also came to learn to drive a bus for their Saturday morning shows. A food truck was a nice treat too. Visitors and their children took a tour of the property and got to see the bus garage and all the different kinds of vehicles needed to transport students to school.

Anyone interested in more information about driving a school bus as a career and the great benefits offered by the district should contact the Boone County Schools Transportation Department at 859.282.5207.
