BUFORD-On Thursday, July 15, 2021, Buford City Schools' nutrition department will join forces with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to host a mobile food pantry.
Megan Gower, Director of School Nutrition, says, "We want local community members to come and stock their own pantries this Thursday. We feel it's part of our responsibility to help feed the families in our area."
The mobile food pantry will be set up at the Buford Arena parking lot beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) is the central hub in the fight against hunger in Atlanta and north Georgia. Their primary function is collecting and distributing donated food and goods and managing all of the logistics and partner relationships that go with it.
ACFB hosts a dozen mobile markets each month to enhance the physical distribution of food to the area.
School Social Worker, Macy Black, confirms that these kinds of events are valuable to the Buford community.
Black said, "Our families in need greatly benefit from events like this. We appreciate all the work that goes into an event this size. Our staff and student volunteers consider this part of our mission, to build the community by serving it, and the availability of the Buford Arena allows community outreach endeavors to be incredibly successful."
