Election 2020
It was a hard-fought race with tough choices all around, but with all of the ballots counted, the winner has been declared.....Reese's Peanut Butter Cup!!
Mrs. Marhofer's fifth grade class conducted a mock candy election to learn about our nation's election process. They registered to vote, created ballots, and cast their votes for their favorite candy at the "voting booth!"
If only all candidates could be so sweet...
Club Invention
Club Invention began this past Thursday. It is an after-school enrichment program that partners with schools to reinforce the traditional school year with inquiry-based activities in science, technology, engineering, and math. The module for the next eight weeks is "SOS: Endangered Earth" where the children are investigating and discovering threats to animal habitats and design safe spaces for wildlife for all types of animals from black bears to birds.
The Apex pep rally was a great way to kick off our Apex fun run. This is a two- week interactive leadership program that promotes leadership habits and good character combined with a fitness-focused event to help Bracken raise money. Our students will be transformed into MIGHTY leaders with daily lessons based on leadership and character building. All funds raised for elementary will support: playground fund, curriculum, leveled books, classroom books, classroom needs, and science equipment and material.
For the purpose of full disclosure, please note that Bracken will receive 51 percent of all donations while APEX Leadership Company will receive 49 percent. From the 49 percent allocated to APEX, students and staff will receive prizes and cash. For example, teachers will receive 10 percent of the amount their students raise to spend on their class.
Pick Up Reminders:
·     We are experiencing traffic problems in the afternoon when parents using the drive-through pick up for Pre-K- 1st grades continue to wait there for their older children. Once you have picked up your Pre-K, Kinder, or 1st grader, please pull out of the drive-through lane and into a parking space or to the front of the school. If a line has already formed for 2nd-5th grade pick-up, we still need parents to move out to the front of the school into a parking space to make room for others trying to pick up at the drive-through.
·     Choir dismissal on Tuesday is at 4:15. Please do not arrive too early as it will back up traffic down the hill and out Old Boerne Rd. If you arrive early, please pull into a parking space.
Upcoming events:

Middle School/High School News
Tashi Land, Principal
We are only 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving break and I am reminded of Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I remember as a teenager and into my early college years wondering what God’s will was for my life and coming across this verse. I pray that as you shepherd your children daily in their walk with The Lord that you will remind them of these three things - Rejoice always, Pray Continually, and Give thanks in all circumstances. If we, as a Bracken family, can do these three things well, we will be able to make Bracken a light on a hill for the Bulverde community as well as a safe haven of hope for those in desperate need of God’s love and forgiveness.

Some reminders for this week:
  • Anython Fundraiser. This is a very easy fundraiser in which to participate. You just need to text people the link. That’s it. In a survey, the students requested the money raised go to fixing up the campus (bathrooms, courtyards, etc.). As an added incentive, any participating student who raises $250 will have their name put in a drawing for five free dress passes. There will be three winners. In addition, any class that raises at least $3000 will have all students in that class added to the drawing. We have until Thursday to participate, so please encourage your students to text their friends and family members.
  • Honor roll and principal honor roll certificates will be handed out during the first period on Monday, Nov 9, during first period. If your students qualify, they can bring their certificates home tomorrow.
  • As the weather gets colder, please remember that your students need to have Bracken outerwear (hoodies, fleeces, etc.). Blankets and non-Bracken outerwear are not authorized per the dress code. The dress code can be found in the handbook on the website.
  • In the mornings before school (and any other time while your student is on campus) students need to be in classrooms or in the courtyard. Please remind your student that once they are on campus they should not be waiting in their cars. (This includes before school, during lunch, and after school.) Thanks!
  • Please remind your high school students that if they are tardy to class, this will potentially eliminate their ability to exempt their midterms.
  • Thank you to parents who have brought us (or sent via Amazon) disposable masks - what a blessing!!
  • This Tuesday, Nov 10, the high school volleyball team is having a playoff game in the Bracken gym. We want to encourage everyone to come and NAVY OUT! Any student that comes in Bracken navy spirit wear will receive a free dress pass. Come support your Lady Warriors!
Upcoming events: See Week at a Glance for all events this week.
Nov 16 at 6:30 pm - Costa Rica mission trip (June 2021) and Europe 2022 high school student trip (spring 2022) parent meetings in room 708.
