Greetings!
This year, the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) has been keenly focused on advancing actionable dialogues around load growth and energy affordability. These trends dominate the political conversations in Washington, DC – and increasingly in state legislatures and energy offices across the country.
Few are facing these challenges – and opportunities – as acutely as state-level decisionmakers. Through our new American Energy Abundance Alliance initiative, BCSE has convened policymakers and energy business leaders this winter to share ideas and find common ground on solutions to advance America’s energy expansion.
| BCSE’s American Energy Abundance Alliance convened discussions between utility commissioners and energy business leaders alongside NARUC’s Winter Policy Summit in Washington, DC. | |
Washington, DC: In February, the Alliance and utility commissioners from 11 states discussed what state regulators are doing to attract data centers, re-industrialize, and meet the needs of residential customers. BCSE member companies shared information about what technology providers are seeing in the market and how they can help states meet growing energy demand.
Houston, TX: In March, the Alliance, Power Up Texas, and Texas chambers of commerce discussed how the state’s regulatory framework, investment conditions, and market signals have successfully driven energy sector investment and economic development. Policies, regulatory approaches, and public-private partnerships all can help keep energy prices in check for businesses and families.
The takeaway from these meetings: we have the technologies needed to achieve energy abundance for all Americans. However, no single solution will meet the challenge. An all-of-the-above, technology-inclusive approach – along with demand-side management – is needed to keep energy costs low while unlocking new capacity.
These issues are only becoming more significant amid rising unpredictability across the energy landscape. We look forward to continuing this roundtable series in states like Virginia and Texas later this year – and we want you to be in the room with us.
