First Quarter 2019 e Newsletter
Message from the President of the Board
Linda F. Martin, CSP, SMS, ASP, OHST, CHST, STSC, CET
This year marks the Board of Certified Safety Professionals' (BCSP) 50 th anniversary. Half a century ago, we were founded to identify the knowledge and skills necessary for competent, reliable safety professionalism and develop a means of ensuring these needs are met by qualified practitioners, protecting people, property, and the environment.

Today, BCSP offers ten different credentials that are designed by industry subject matter experts to satisfy the full range of safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) needs present throughout their operations. The GSP and TSP designations create a pathway from safety study to safety practice. Our certifications, all ANSI accredited, set the standard for businesses and organizations that value safety while simultaneously providing dedicated practitioners with marks of distinction.

We are advancing the profession and professionals in exciting, new ways. BCSP and the BCSP Foundation are educating young people on workplace safety, the latter in partnership with NIOSH. Youth who choose safety as their field of study have access to extensive financial resources through generous scholarships. BCSP is growing the value of certification through new offerings like digital badging, integrating credential holders’ profiles into our online directory and other media.

Our initiatives are bringing new attention to the safety profession and highlighting the achievements of those committed to excellence in safety practice.

BCSP has a rich tradition that spans 50 years, and we are looking forward to the future.

U.S. Air Force Safety Professional Discusses Value of CET, Certification
Zachary Northcutt, CSP, CET didn’t always know he wanted to be a safety professional. While serving 10 years active duty in the United States Air Force (USAF), being given the role of enforcing safety standards was more of a “voluntold” situation than an outright desire to begin a path that would eventually lead him to become a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Environmental, Safety and Health Trainer (CET).
BCSP Foundation

Recognizing the power of philanthropy to create change, BCSP made a commitment to advance the field and support professionals dedicated to building safer communities in which they live, serve, and work. Today, the BCSP Foundation acts as an extension of BCSP in developing programs with measurable impact in the area of SH&E. This is your opportunity to make an impact, so become a part of the community of donors and make a gift to the BCSP Foundation . Together, we are people saving people!
#MySafeSummerJob Aims to Spread Awareness About Youth Workplace Safety

Banner displays are a great way to promote BCSP certifications and earn recertification credit. A display is available to any certificant for use at chapter meetings, regional or local conferences, career fairs, and other safety-related seminars, meetings, and presentations. BCSP ships to and from any U.S. venue and provides literature at no cost.

If you would like to reserve a display, fill out a  Banner Display Request . Displays are first come, first serve and must be returned.

Presentations on safety certification can also be done for recertification points, and BCSP has many resources that can be used for presentations, including pre-made PowerPoints, on our  Presentations and Outreach webpage .
