Toward a Safer Future
Treasa M. Turnbeaugh, PhD, CSP, ASP, CET, CAE
This year marks the 50th anniversary of our founding. The Board of Certified Safety Professionals' (BCSP) inaugural meetings defined the nature, scope, and functions of the safety professional, from which the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) was conceived. The certification process provides a method for qualifying those safety professionals who demonstrate competency in safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) knowledge and skills, and the CSP quickly became the Gold Standard to which we all strive today.

After 50 years, BCSP now offers a set of certifications applicable to all levels of safety responsibility, providing a comprehensive system for organizations to ensure their members understand and value safety, each of proven quality and all meeting rigorous ANSI accreditation standards.

BCSP owes a great deal of its success to our partners, whether they be those Sponsoring Organizations from which our Board Members come, STS and STSC Sponsors who share our dedication to safety by supporting employees' certification, or individual certificants who volunteer as BCSP Ambassadors or subject matter experts.

We are continuing to provide value to both our partners and certificants, both through the certifications themselves as well as additional benefits. We recently launched digital badges for credential holders, allowing them to quickly share their achievement and what it means to hold a BCSP credential. At the beginning of the year, we provided businesses complimentary use of our BCSP Career Center, designed specifically for connecting credential holders to the businesses that seek them.

Please make use of the information contained in this enewsletter to advance safety as you can. We have advanced safety a great deal in the last 50 years, and I am excited to work with you in continuing to do so.
BCSP Sponsoring Organizations

BCSP's sponsoring organizations help ensure that the governance of BCSP includes broad representation from across the safety profession by recommending Board Members. These organizations do not provide funding or support to BCSP or its operations. They do provide their members with a variety of services important to safety professionals.
PepsiCo Recognizes BCSP Certificants
In December of 2018, BCSP participated at PepsiCo North American Beverage's EHS meeting in Chicago to continue its vision of creating a safer world through safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) certification. BCSP's Nancy I. Colone, Business Development Manager, addressed PepsiCo's EHS associates on the value of certification at PepsiCo's award ceremony.

Several PepsiCo EHS associates were recognized by the Vice President of EHS, Jana Gessner, CSP, for meeting the requirements necessary to gain certification by BCSP. PepsiCo and BCSP are committed to continually improving safety in the workplace by promoting safety as a core value and a fundamental foundation of the corporate culture.

BCSP's Toolkit for Advancing the Safety Profession

Banner displays are a great way to promote BCSP certifications and earn Recertification credit. A display is available to any certificate holder for use at chapter meetings, regional or local conferences, career fairs, and other safety-related seminars, meetings, and presentations. BCSP ships to and from any U.S. venue and provides literature at no cost.

If you would like to borrow a display, fill out a  Display and Literature Request Form . Your request will be received by Nick Peaper, BCSP's Marketing and Outreach Assistant. Banner displays are available on a first come, first served basis.

Presentations on safety certification can also be done for recertification credit, and BCSP has many resources that can be used for presentations, including pre-made PowerPoints, on our  Presentations and Outreach page .
