ALUMNI NEWS & NOTES
Dear BCSSW Alumni,

Greetings on behalf of the BCSSW Alumni Association! As members of the Alumni Board, we represent the alumni community and work to connect alumni with each other, the School, and current students.

Please join us in welcoming four new members to the Alumni Board: Paul Heithaus ’06, Claire Johnson Allen ’07, Lujuana Milton ’07, and Rosey Neill ’15.

Last year through events such as an ice cream social and a winter exam hot chocolate break we connected over 250 students with alumni. Our hope this year is to build upon those events. If you have ideas about what we should be working on as a community, please let us know—we welcome your input.

Below are ways you can stay connected to other alumni and the school—from mentoring recent graduates to helping students prepare for their job searches to attending events.

We look forward to seeing you this year!

Best,
Cindy Snell
Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations

1. Distinguished Alumni Award
2. Distinguished Recent Graduate Award
(for alumni who have graduated within the last 5–10 years)

Networking Events
Small networking events have been held around the country over the past couple of years in Charlotte, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York City.

Mock Interviewing
Alumni across the globe are invited to participate as interviewers in the Mock Interviewing Program, April 10–12, 2019. Mock Interviews take place in person, over the phone, or via Skype so soon-to-be graduates can practice their interviewing skills.

For more information, please contact Cindy Snell at [email protected].
Mentor a BCSSW Student
Join the 2019 mentoring program. Mentors are alumni that have graduated in 2011 or earlier, and mentees are alumni whose graduation years fall between 2012 and 2018. Quarterly email communication is expected with the option to have phone or in-person communications. Quarterly check-ins, as well as articles, will be sent by the program coordinators. Some of the mentoring topics will include: mentoring relationship goals, leadership and teamwork, work-life balance, workplace challenges, and career goals. The program will run from January–December 2019 with the option to continue a more informal mentorship if participants wish.

Please email [email protected] for more information or to sign up.

Host an Undergraduate Job Shadow
The Boston College Career Center Job Shadow program pairs undergraduates with individual host sites for a day-long immersion experience over Winter Break (January 2019). Over the course of a day, students will gain valuable exposure to a field of interest as well as mentorship from working professionals in the industry. See here for further details of the program.

If you're interested in being informed when host registration is available, please email [email protected] to join the listserv, and the BC Career Center will be in touch.
