For decades Bayfield’s Pureair Sanitorium was a beautiful lakeside refuge from a deadly disease. 'The San', as it was more popularly known, is long gone, though recycled pieces can be found scattered throughout the community. More importantly, its story remains. In our next John Matthew Black presentation, Dennis McCann will explain the world events that led to construction of a tuberculosis hospital on Lake Superior’s shore as well as what life there was like for patients, staff and community.

Volunteers Needed for Trail User Study | |

To better understand the value of the trails, the Bayfield Area Trails Committee has partnered with the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau and the UW-River Falls Survey Research Center to conduct a yearlong study that launched in September 2024.
We are looking for volunteers to conduct trail user surveys for two-hour shifts. Scheduling is quite flexible. To get started or learn more, sign up at the link below, and our project coordinator will be in touch. Please consider giving it a try!
