While we cannot be together physically, the importance of community and staying connected is more important than ever.

Movie with Mark- The Queen's Gambit
OK, this isn’t a movie, but a lot of us are watching this 7-part, 6-hour Netflix series, adapted by Scott Frank from Walter Tevis’s novel. Anya Taylor-Joy plays Beth Harmon, an orphaned 1960s chess phenom who topples kings and stereotypes in her quest to face the world champion. Chess never seemed so exciting, and this talented cast may boast the most striking, expressive sets of eyes ever assembled. If you’re watching, as well you should, please join the discussion!

Challah Midrash corner
Check out Karen Isaacson's Challah Midrash on Toldot! No, they’re not turtles. Rebecca had two nations in her belly - Esau (red and hairy) and Jacob (holding onto Esau’s heel) ...and setting the stage for conflict over birthright. Find more photos on our instagram.
You too can sign up to bake Challah for a particular week. Just email Karen Isaacson to sign up.

The Poetry of Prayer with Rabbi Kenneth Berger
Many of our prayers are beautiful poetic responses to our experience of God in nature and the ongoing history of the Jewish people. In the first session, we will examine two prayers recited at the beginning of the evening service on Shabbat and weekdays. In the second session, we will study Yedid Nefesh, a kabalistic poem of longing for God sung at the very beginning of the Friday evening service in many congregations.
Member fee $25 or included in Friday package; non-member fee $35

Rabbi Kenneth Berger earned his doctorate in Jewish liturgy from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, where he also served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Liturgy. He was rabbi of Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck, New Jersey, until his retirement. Since relocating to the Chicago area, he has taught at the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership and at Limmud Chicago.

Interesting Resources
BE Connected is an opportunity for groups with similar interests to come together as well as opportunities for conversation around various topics. What better way to engage with the Beth Emet community, try something new, and connect when we have a bit more time on our hands? Given our new reality, this initiative will start virtually, but we hope that this will continue once life returns to normal.

Each week you will receive a dedicated email with a listing of opportunities for the next two weeks. If you do not have access to a web camera for a video call, we will include phone numbers as well. And if you have an idea as we expand the reach of BE Connected, contact Marti Netler.

We look forward to seeing you very soon.
