UNITED RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY NEWS

Today marks the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish New Year and High Holy Days (to be followed by Yom Kippur, Oct 11-12). Shanah Tovah and Happy New Year to all celebrating the feasts.

For Wordle fans, it felt like maybe URC had recently sponsored the five letter words of the day when both 'TORCH' and 'FAITH' came along in one week. URC has no such P__W__R with the New York Times puzzle people, but it was a fun coincidence. Your editor is happy to note that he got both words, though FAITH last Friday took five, eventually ironic, attempts.

TUESDAY, OCT 7: URC VOLUNTEER TRAINING (Virtual): 6 PM via Zoom (for any interested or currently involved volunteers)
THURSDAY, OCT 17: MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA MICHIANA Summit, 1-4 PM (Main Library; no charge, but register)

Don't forget to register or at least check your registration to vote by Oct. 7 (Indiana). URC has paper applications for voters to register that will be available to congregational leaders (see below).

ELECTION: REGISTER BY OCT. 7 FOR INDIANA

The 2025 General Elections are next month (you probably have heard that!). In Indiana, voters will elect a new governor, a new US Senator, and numerous state and local officials. The deadline to register is Monday, October 7.

FAITH COMMUNITY LEADERS: URC encourages you to put out the word to get your congregation's members to register and research the issues. URC has paper Indiana Voter Registration Applications available for you; call 574-282-2397 X 3, or email urc@urcsjc.org to pick up on Friday, Oct. 4 (note: voters can register online or by paper application).

SOUTH BEND GLOBAL CUP: SATURDAY, OCT 5, 9-2

The 2nd Annual South Bend Global Cup will take place this Saturday at Boehm Park in South Bend! 9-10 teams will compete, including teams representing a wide range of countries of origin like Bosnia, Mexico, Malawi, Venezuela, and more.
