Dear Friends of Fleet Feet,

Happy Thursday!

We hope you've been staying warm the past week!  Wow, you know it's cold when the temperature outside warms up, but they are still considered to be a bit below normal!

Our hearts were warmed by your response to our request for your "I Am The Movement" stories!  Our first feature, below, is a wonderful account of a mother's new-found confidence in herself and how she's using her new level of fitness to help her daughter's school.  If you have stories like this to share, please let us know -- send us an email and give us the scoop!

We are excited to tell you about Adidas' new lineup of running/walking shoes and some of the changes they have made. Read on below for information about some of their new models and of course please stop in any time to try on a pair!

As always, our Web Site provides a ton of information about local races, runs, walks and other great events.  We also have great information (and a few videos) about Fleet Feet Sports and our amazing training programs!  We've added a few options that you are going to definitely want to consider this Spring -- including our No Boundaries 5K and Next Steps 10K Training program starting February 9, 2011 for the Rat Race.  Remember, 2011 is the year of NO EXCUSES -- we have so many choices to offer and so many options for you that you can't say no!

We have a few Say "Good-bye to Winter (Please)" Specials going on this weekend at Fleet Feet Sports:

SIR STRIDE SAYS...BE A PART OF THE MOVEMENT

"It is a rough road that leads to the heights of greatness."

Local Mom Becomes The Movement for Deaf Daughter
Sandra/Jazzy
Jasmine and Sandra .

It's hard to imagine the lovely, fit mom in this photo 70 pounds heavier.  But she was!  And if you look at her adorable daughter, you can see her reason for saying, "I Am The Movement."  She has defined being part of the movement by walking, and then running, her way to not only substantial weight loss, but also a personal goal benefiting her daughter's school.

This is the first in what will be a series of stories about you, our customers, who will "Be The Movement" with us as we walk, run or move our way to becoming our best selves.

This story starts In 2003, when Sandra and her husband went to China to adopt a child, Jasmine, whom they call "Jazzy."  And it was while they were in China that they learned she had "severe-profound" hearing loss in both ears.  Undaunted, they brought Jazzy home and got her cochlear implants.  They then enrolled her at Ohio Valley Voices -- a local school for children birth to eight years of age focused on "teaching deaf children to speak". This school in Loveland is where kids like Jazzy learn to speak and listen every day.

All schools need financial help, but this school doesn't stop at bake sales and magazine subscriptions.  They get people to run and walk the Flying Pig Marathon as a major fundraiser. It awed and intimidated Sandra at the same time.  She tells Fleet Feet Sports, "I wished that I could be one of the people running in honor of one of the students and raising money while doing it. I admired them so much and they inspired me, but I felt that I was in no way able to be one of them."

But about a year ago, Sandra decided to make a change.  She went from spectator to participant.

"I joined a weight loss program and started walking as part of my exercise routine," Sandra says. "After several months, the walking became too easy (I wasn't even breaking a sweat anymore), so I thought I would add some running."

It's common for the people in our training programs to find that they are reaching a plateau in their workouts before they move on to greater gains. Sandra's perseverance over many months, and decision to make her workouts harder, is particularly impressive.

In the beginning, she says, "I could not run for even a minute without completely being out of breath. I felt ridiculous running, but decided to stick with it."

What a great attitude!  We try to create an atmosphere where everybody can reach their goals, and we know it's not always easy!  Sandra says it happened for her over time.  "Very slowly but surely," she says, "I was able to run longer distances. And the best part was that I was actually enjoying it!"

We love hearing that!

But it doesn't end there.  Her effort resulted in losing a whopping 70 pounds, which opened up new possibilities for Sandra.  That included training for a marathon!

"I felt that this is the year that I AM able!" she gushes.  "I started the training program thinking I was going to run a 10K or run/walk a half marathon, but coach Kim encouraged me to train to walk/run the full marathon."

Wow!  Well, this is the year of "No Excuses," after all!  But her experience isn't just about better physical health. Sandra has gained a lot of self-confidence, too.

"Given the fact that I have NEVER even run in any race, I am bit scared.  But I am also very excited. I just turned 40, I am 70 pounds lighter and I have a newly found confidence in myself since I started running."

Sandra is justifiably proud to be "doing something I never thought I could" while giving back to the school that changed her daughter's life.

Of course, inspiration has come in a little package from China named Jazzy.  Sandra says, Jazzy is, "...amazing. She has overcome a lot of obstacles and she will continue to face challenges, but I want to show both my girls that you can do anything you set your mind to."

Sandra has and certainly will!

We're thrilled Sandra can say, "I Am The Movement!"   And we're glad she's part of our training program!

If you want to learn more about Ohio Valley Voices please visit their Web Site.

Our goal with our "I Am The Movement" series is to share inspiring stories about all of you!  Whether you're overcoming challenges, sharing something about training efforts or just trying something new, we know everyone has a story

If you or someone you know has a story to share, we'd love to share it.  Please send us a short paragraph to get us started to info@fleetfeetcincy.com.   Remember, the E-Newsletter is only sent out once a week and so it may take us a little while to get through all of your stories!

THE ADIDAS SHOES YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!

Adidas has been busy revamping its lineup of performance running/walking shoes and we have the newest models at Fleet Feet Sports!

glide3mens
Adidas Supernova Glide3

THE ADIDAS SUPERNOVA GLIDE 3 still features Adidas' highly-cushioned midsole featuring "FORMOTION" and adiPRENE for cushioning.  In the newest model, Adidas made the forefoot more flexible and streamlined the upper for an even better "Glide!"  Improvements include slimmer foam around the collar and separate eyelets for a better fit.   If our sales associates have recommended a neutral cushioned trainer, you'll want to come try these on as Adidas has made it a more supple, sleek and better looking than before.

Adidas Supernova Adapt

THE ADIDAS SUPERNOVA ADAPT

is for those of you who remember fondly the Supernova Classic.  That sleek, lightweight shoe disappeared a few years ago.  Now Adidas is using the same platform as the Supernova Classic to built a new light-stability shoe called the "Adapt!"  And it has more cushioning than the old Classics you remember!

Adidas added its famous "FORMOTION" unit in the heel, kept the flexible support on the instep and added deeply-grooved adiPRENE+ in the forefoot for energy return and flexibility.  The upper has light, flexible materials only where Adidas wanted to add structural support.  It's pretty minimalist as stability shoes go.  Short of building a time machine to go back for your old Classics, you can't get closer to the original!

The Adidas Supernova Sequence has a new, improved upper, too!  We have all three of these shoes in stock for both men and women.

Stop by to try on the newest version of your favorite Adidas shoe or to go through our unique FIT process!  We'll see you soon at Fleet Feet Sports!

CYSTIC FIBROSIS "TEAM FOR LIFE" PREPS FOR THE PIG!

CFteamforlife

If you feel inspired to use your next event to help someone else, here is a great option.

Fleet Feet Sports has partnered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations' Team for Life Marathon and 1/2 Marathon Training program for the past ten years!   This is an opportunity to train for the Flying Pig while raising money to help find a cure for this deadly disease.

"CF," as it's called, is a genetic disorder affecting some 30,000 people in the U.S. (70,000 worldwide).  It causes the body to produce a thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, leading to life-threatening infections.  It also affects digestion, preventing the body from absorbing nutrients.

Just a few decades ago, children diagnosed with CF rarely lived to attend grade school.  Today, advances in research and treatment have extended patients' lives to the 30s and 40s and beyond.

If you'd like to help make "CF" stand for "Cure Found," the Team for Life program is a good option.  Coach Wayne Wheeler, will prepare for any of the events at "The Pig" in May.

Participants receive an individually tailored running/walking program, to complete their goal in "The Pig!"  They also receive a special training shirt and help with achieving fundraising goals.

If you're interested in the program, please call Amy Famularo at (513) 533-9300, email her at afamularo@cff.org, or visit the local chapter's Web site by clicking this link: http://cincinnati.cff.org.

This is one great way to "Be The Movement" and help someone else!
