A Note From Pastor Linda
Jesus said: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. ~Mark 12
Dear Hosanna Family,
Last month the Community Resource Center had to turn away 18 eligible families who needed a place to stay- they were homeless. Homeless could mean sleeping in a car- to couch hopping from friend to friend- to walking the streets with no place to go. It means not having a place to call HOME.
On Sunday the St. Andrew's Family Shelter (SAFeS) in Hugo (pictured below) was officially blessed for service. This is a partnership between the Community Resource Center at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, St. Genevieve Catholic Church
-and many area churches... including HOSANNA! SAFeS is not a HOME- it is a shelter- a place for families to rest and to get resourced so that they can find stable housing- this includes working on goals to remove the barriers that prohibit them from having a stable home.
The shelter, located at 14383 Forest Blvd. N in Hugo, is ALMOST ready to open its doors to up to FIVE families
. Hosanna has adopted a Family Room (pictured below)- supplying basic needs like towels, sheets, alarm clocks, pillows and more. Hosanna has also committed to staffing one week- July 29-August 4. Are you ready to serve? Here are some details.
Shift times and basic responsibilities:
- Check in with Staff- and volunteer orientation.
- Finish preparing the evening meal and ready it for serving buffet-style.
- Eat with families.
- Clean up- (guests/families are not allowed in the kitchen area).
- Spend time with families that choose to hang out in the commons area.
- 8:15pm- 9:15am
- Check in with Staff - and volunteer orientation.
- Ready for Lights Out!
- There is a volunteer room with two twin beds- so YES, you can sleep!
- Ready continental breakfast- and clean up after everyone leaves.
Got questions? Contact Pastor Linda, Joslyn Mathison here or Kristin Salzman here with questions.
Once signed-up you will be contacted to fill out a Hosanna background check (needed once every three years) and watch a 5 minute volunteer video.
Be the CHURCH - invite a neighbor to join you!

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
Monday, July 25
We will be discussing the book "
Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng, which was named Best Book of the Year by NPR, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and is a New York Times Best Seller!
Little Fires Everywhere begins with a house fire and a question: Who set it, and why? The house belongs to Elena and Bill Richardson, a wealthy white couple who epitomize success in picture-perfect, late-90's Shaker Heights, and their four teenage children, including girl-next-door, Lexie and the troubled prankster, Izzy, who is suspected of arson. "The firemen said there were little fires everywhere," Lexie says. "Multiple points of origin. Possible use of accelerant. Not an accident." Author Ng returns to the past for answers.
We will gather at Curt and Kelly Monson's home on Forest Lake at 8336 North Shore Trail and head out on the pontoon for an evening of conversation and connection. Contact Pastor Linda with questions.
