Co-working Spaces Are
Booming in Burlington
|
Shared Spaces are booming in Burlington. These spaces provide the flexibility and the scalability needed for small businesses to grow. Some recent growth of Shared Spaces include:
- Founder's Hub opened their 8,000 s.f. location at 830 Harrington Court.
- Halton Hive relocated to the Crossroads Centre at 1295 North Service Road.
- OnePlan recently celebrated the Grand Opening of their Downtown Burlington location at 460 Brant Street. This is their second Burlington location.
Burlington has over 60,000 square feet of shared spaces, including over 140 private offices, over 60 shared desks, private cubicles, and meeting rooms.

New City of Burlington Official Plan - Business Focus
|
The City of Burlington has been engaged in a municipal comprehensive review of its Official Plan. This is the document which plans for the City's land use strategy to 2031 and beyond. For Burlington businesses, one of the priorities for the City is to attract labour talent, good jobs and economic opportunity. Employment Policies can be found in Chapter 5. Frank McKeown to Retire as BEDC Executive Director
BEDC's Board of Directors have announced
that
Frank McKeown
will be retiring from his role as Executive Director effective June 27, 2018.
Anita Cassidy, currently Manager Economic Development, has been appointed Acting Executive Director. Read more

Exciting Changes at TechPlace
Claire Green, Manager of TechPlace, is on maternity leave. In her absence, Mark Steffler will be taking over as Manager of TechPlace. Mark has been with BEDC for over five years acting in a number of economic development capacities. BEDC & TechPlace wish Claire and her husband, John, all the best as they start their family and welcome Mark to his new role.

AXYZ International Acquires WARDJet
|
AXYZ International, based in Burlington, is
a leading global manufacturer of CNC router systems and CNC knife systems. They recently expanded into the waterjet industry with the purchase of Ohio based WARDJet. WARDJet products will continue to be made at the Ohio facility but will now be supported by AXYZ's global network of sales and support offices. Read more

BEDC is once again partnering with Export Development Canada (EDC) to present the 12th annual "Let's Talk Exports" breakfast with EDC Chief Economist, Peter Hall. This highly regarded economic outlook is an event that all businesses should attend, especially those currently exporting or planning to do so in the future. Key insights will include the impact of protectionism on Canadian exporters; operating in a world of higher interest rates; key opportunities in the global marketplace; and where the Canadian dollar is headed.
