A Message of Support for International Women's Day from our Executive Director |
On the eve of International Women’s Day, which will be on Tuesday, March 8th, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the strides that women are making in entrepreneurship in Bermuda. BEDC has been in existence for over 40 years, and I have been proud to serve as the Executive Director for the last twelve years. In my tenure at the BEDC, I can categorically say that most entrepreneurs who take our courses, receive our products, and participate in our programmes are women. Contrary to what can be found in other countries, I am proud to say that Bermuda has a vibrant and strong women entrepreneurial eco-system! In 2018 our stakeholder survey revealed that the majority of businesses were owned by women, consistent with the data we found in our 2012 stakeholder survey. This year we are conducting a follow-up survey to see if the trend has continued. |

Next Tuesday, the world recognizes the contributions that women make in society. Specifically, this year, the focus is on #BreakTheBias . As the leader of the BEDC, it is integral that there is diversity in our organizational structure and that the programmes and products we offer are inclusive. We celebrate the achievements of our women entrepreneurs in Bermuda and will continue to raise them up, provide support, and advocate for them; when we do this, everyone benefits.
The BEDC has a variety of products, services, and partnerships created to support women-owned businesses. Annually, we celebrate Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) in partnership with the US Consulate and local sponsor companies to host our WED Conference. We also partner with W.O.M.B to award the Female Entrepreneur of the Year. BEDC not only supports but believes in the power of women. Stay tuned for developing partnerships, products, and services to support women entrepreneurs!

Have You Been Hacked? Follow these steps. |
Are you all of a sudden seeing strange or inappropriate pop-ups on your screen? Are you having difficulty accessing files or emails that you should easily have access to? Are your contacts receiving emails from you that you did not send? You may have been hacked.

BEDC Teams Up with BTA & SailGP to Create Opportunities |
BEDC is excited to be able to connect opportunities with Bermuda’s local small and medium businesses and is raising awareness on the opportunities available from the upcoming SailGP Event that will take place in Bermuda on May 14 and 15, 2022.
As part of the SailGP Steering Committee, we are have partnered with the Bermuda Tourism Authority and SailGP where we hosted a series of question and answer sessions on the vendor and service provision opportunities SailGP is looking to fill.

Forbes Under 30 Residency Bermuda Mentorship Incubator |
Over the last month, 30 local entrepreneurs got the opportunity to be a part of the Forbes Under 30 Residency Bermuda Mentorship Incubator. These local entrepreneurs were paired with a mentor who shared their expertise, offered professional support, and helped guide them towards tools for their business’ success.
BEDC was happy to connect these fantastic entrepreneurs with Forbes, where we hope they're able to take all they've learned and build on their business.

Bermuda Island Games is putting on the first annual Video Game Design Challenge to bring together anyone who ever wanted to build their own video game in Bermuda. They will be covering what goes into creating a game, how to break down the design and help answer any questions you have about building the game.
The event will be held at Warwick Academy on Friday March 18th from 5pm - 9pm and on Saturday March 19th from 9am - 9pm. Food and drinks will be provided. For anyone who is unable to attend physically we've got you covered - there will be a live Zoom feed both days for you to join in.
