New Board Co-Presidents
The Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside is proud to announce that
the BGCC Board elected new Co-Presidents:
Betsy del Fierro
Co-President
Roger A. Estrella
Co-President
Working Together
"We believe that the Co-Presidents' individual strengths and combined leadership will help us best meet the ever-changing needs of our organization", says Jill Jacobson Executive Director.

Betsy and Roger are interested in sharing leadership because they recognize their unique skill sets naturally complement each other. Since both leaders have significant personal commitments, sharing important duties is also advantageous.

The job responsibilities of the Co-Presidents will be divided according to their areas of expertise. Expanding her previous role as Marketing Chair, Betsy will focus on marketing and fund development. Roger will focus on the strategic plan, finances, and safety which is his area of work expertise.

Congratulations, Betsy and Roger! We look forward to a great 2022!
Introducing Our Co-Presidents
Betsy del Fierro Founder/Owner

Why BGCC?
"I want to give back to my community --
and the BGCC mission aligns with the values I was taught growing up -- a love of kids, teaching and embracement of all races, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds."
About Betsy
In 2018, Betsy joined the Board bringing personal business experience and an entrepreneurial spirit. Betsy quickly learned that BGCC offered far more support to the community than she originally knew.

As Chair of the Marketing Committee, she played an integral role in developing the BGCC "Did You Know?" campaign to increase community awareness. She strongly believes in "communicating so people know what BGCC is doing. Then they can really get behind the good work we are doing here in the Community."

Who is Betsy?
Born into a family of teachers, her father instilled the importance of hard work, strength, acceptance, and humor. In 1993, Betsy made her home in Half Moon Bay with her husband, George, and now adult children (Rene, Maile, and Camille.) Her chihuahua, Sweet Pea, along with her granddogs Moon and Hikianali'a are dear to her heart.

Fun Facts:
  • Born in Honolulu
  • Former Children's music teacher
  • Performed in groups -- weddings, funerals
  • Sings, plays and dances Hula

Roger A. Estrella
Genentech Director
(Retired)

Why BGCC?
"I became very involved in my sons' sports -- particularly soccer, basketball and baseball. I really enjoyed working with kids and eventually mentored students. Children are a joy to be around!

I always felt that children are the future. I truly believe their success is critical to our community -- and our country. Young people will make our country successful if they are taught to be good citizens."

About Roger
In 2018, Roger joined the BGCC Board and served as Chair of the Safety Committee, responsible for all matters of safety and emergency preparedness. He collaborated closely with Jill Jacobson and staff to develop a Safety handbook for the Club. When the pandemic hit, he was tasked with developing "doable" protocols to keep the community and children safe -- and those successful program protocols continue today.

Roger had some experience preparing for a pandemic. During his 23 years at Genentech, he was responsible for assessing supply chain risk to ensure business continuity. These assessments included financial health and other risks, such as pandemic preparedness.

Who is Roger?
Roger was born and raised in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Linda, moved to Half Moon Bay when he joined Genentech in 1992. They have two adult sons, Nicholas and Roger Henry. Now retired, Roger makes himself available to do consulting work when he isn't volunteering for BGCC, traveling the world, or simply enjoying Half Moon Bay, "a wonderful place to live."

  • Loves to Travel
  • Visits Berlin to visit his grandsons

A HUGE THANK YOU!!
Past President, Virginia Perry
We are so very grateful for Virginia's leadership of the BGCC Board from 2019 to 2022. During her tenure as President, she oversaw many powerful changes at the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside.

Highlights include:
  • New Clubhouse space at Cunha
  • Expansion of BGCC Golf Programs
  • Rapid COVID-19 Response
  • Makerspace Creation
  • Staff Expansion and Stabilization
  • Establish the five-year BGCC Strategic Plan

Lucky for us, Virginia will continue to serve as an active member of our Board even while she steps down from her leadership role.

Personally, it was an honor to partner with Virginia, as Executive Director. As you always say "it's all about the kids". And you've been so good for Coastside kids.
Jill Jacobson, Executive Director
"Thank you to this wonderful community! I so enjoy working with all of you to support our local youth. Together, we have accomplished a lot.

As I continue my service on the Board as Past President, I look forward to supporting BGCC's continued growth and success.
