BEHIND THE BLUE DOORS
During the month of July, BGCCB implemented engaging online activities through the 'MyFuture' platform. By utilizing this mobile-friendly classroom, our youth had access to program activities that sustained academic enrichment and prevented summer learning loss. Throughout their lessons, they had the opportunity to learn about one of life's basic skills; tips & tricks for helping with laundry. Since most of our youth were stuck at home this summer, it was an excellent time to encourage them to help around the house. Now that summer is over and school in back in session, BGCCB's Greenwood Unit has been operating as a full-day mentoring center for families who have chosen to do virtual learning instead of in-class instruction. Giving parents the opportunity to get back to work, work without distraction, and providing them with a piece of mind that caring adults are helping to guide their child’s future alongside them and the school's teachers.

In an effort to promote good character & citizenship, BGCCB taught our youth about the importance of keeping our community safe and clean. Although our doors were closed to club members for a large portion of the summer, we still did whatever it took to keep our youth engaged. BGCCB hand-delivered over 320 face mask to club members over the last three months. We took it a step further by creating an open-dialog with our youth about doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. We also demonstrated a simple service project that our youth could do in their own yard/neighborhood. Encouraging them to be conservationist within our community by protecting the place we all love to live.

The youth of BGCCB are constantly demonstrating how they are dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle. During the summer, they stayed actively engaged and having fun by participating in daily exercises and following along during 'Snack Time with BGCCB'. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks were home-delivered to each club member, ensuring that no child goes hungry and that they had the ingredients they needed to participate an our interactive snack time. The steps our youth take to live a healthy lifestyle helps to improve their fitness, strengthen their muscles, control their weight, provides them with a positive self-image, bridges the anxiety/depression gap brought on by COVID-19, and reduces the risk of developing any major health conditions. BGCCB couldn't be more proud of our youth's commitment to acquire good health.
