Natural History Museum Trip

Reseda Elementary

This month, Reseda members went on an exciting field trip to the Natural History Museum. We had about 50 members attend, ranging in age from 5 to 11, and each one found themselves captivated by different parts of the museum. Our adventure began with a walk through the butterfly pavilion, where the children marveled at the colorful array of butterflies fluttering around them. The gardens surrounding the museum provided a serene break from the exhibits. The kids enjoyed exploring the rows of vibrant roses. It was a perfect opportunity for them to connect with nature and appreciate the natural beauty around them. Throughout the museum, interactive exhibits kept the children engaged and learning in a fun, hands-on way. From touching real fossils to participating in science experiments, the kids were fully immersed in the educational experience. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and many declared this to be the coolest field trip ever. The Natural History Museum provided a rich, educational experience that our members will cherish for a long time.

Canoga Park Library Field Trip

Blythe Elementary

The purpose of the field at the Canoga Park Public Library is to engage the community in promoting autism awareness and reading by giving out handmade bookmarks crafted by members of Blythe Elementary as part of a service project.

The target audience was community members who frequent the Canoga Park Public Library, particularly those who are interested in supporting autism awareness and reading projects.

We had 10 members from BGCWV Blythe Elementary go and give out handmade bookmarks for distribution at the Library.

The result of this program was to hand out the handmade bookmarks made by members. The Library guests were then invited to take them and become aware of autism and promote reading within the community. The program aligned with Autism Awareness Month, typically observed in April

This program stands out for its combination of promoting autism awareness and reading through the creative and real contribution of bookmarks crafted by BGCWV Blythe Elementary members. It offers a tangible way for community members to engage with these important themes while also supporting local educational initiatives.

Laser Tag

Calabash Elementary

At BGCWV we know recognition is an important aspect of youth development. This is why we've created incentives to encourage our members to attend with more frequency each month. This month we rewarded members with an experience of Laser Tag. Every member who participated got a chance to have fun, practice teamwork, and compete against each other. The best is when youth don't even realize they are learning life skills that will benefit them to be Future Ready. Through this initiative, we teach them accountability, collaboration, attendance, and movement.

Kindness Carnival

Justice St. Elementary

Several Boys and Girls Clubs in LA County and Ventura County hosted a memorable Kindness is Free Carnival. This event allowed us to celebrate members. At Justice, members were challenged to complete their Kindness Bingo card, which was full of Kind Actions. The event featured a variety of activities, including carnival games, rides, arts and crafts, delicious food, and live entertainment. It was a joyful day that reinforced the message that kindness is free, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this event a success.

Discovery Cube Field Trip

Woodland Hills Elementary

After members at Woodland Hills completed the 12-week Discovery Cube program, we were thrilled to culminate their journey with an exciting field trip to the Discovery Cube Museum. Members got to explore the Discovery Cube center and try out different activities. Among the many thrilling challenges, they particularly enjoyed an activity where they had to pull themselves up at different levels of difficulty, testing their strength and perseverance. This field trip was not only a celebration of their hard work but also an incredibly successful and enjoyable experience. Overall, members enjoyed their time at Discovery Cube and had a great time within all of the different activities offered there.

PSA Valley Views News

Teen Center

We recently had the privilege to send a couple of our members from the Teen Center to make an appearance on KROJ 101.5 FM. These two members were active in our PSA program which was led by CEO, Geovanny Ragsdale. During the six-week program, members learned about Public Service Announcements and met professionals who work in Radio, Social Media creators, AI content creators, and many others. At the conclusion, members were invited for an onset experience in the radio station. They learned the different functionalities it takes to operate, they gained an understanding of what a radio show is like, and they got to be interviewed. I would like to highlight the impact this program has had on our members and how it has boosted their self-confidence.
