Living Art Enlivens Hotels, Reduces Waste

Living art is an alternative to cut flowers that adds beauty and conversation-pieces to hotels and other commercial buildings, according to Julie Schena, Cityscapes' Director of Living Art & Holiday Design.
Like cut flowers, they are customized to each space. Some spaces benefit from succulents, and others from woodier displays.
While fresh flowers last about 5 days, living art lasts as long as a month. Cityscapes horticulturists maintain them.
Because living art lasts longer than cut flowers, they cost less and produce less waste. When they do need replacement, they're reused, donated or composted.

Refinishing, reupholstering or repurposing furniture saves hotels a fortune and keeps furniture out of landfills. Restoration companies specialize in hospitality. They turn around rooms quickly, with minimal disruption.

The Many Benefits of Professionally Installed Window Film

Professionally-installed window film reduces solar heat gain and protects furnishings from UV rays. Some window films are insulating and provide safety when glass breaks.

James Jones and Valerie Roberson, CommonWealth, May 16
Smart building technology is burgeoning--and so is the demand for  technicians to run and maintain our smarter buildings

So Skanska (the international construction company), other businesses and governmental organizations asked Roxbury Community College to design an associates degree course in that field. The program should begin next year.
