Dear Boston Green Tourism Members,

I cancelled tomorrow's meeting at Courtyard Boston Downtown, because of the snowstorm.

I'm working to reschedule this meeting.

Battery Recycling Made Easy

Does your hotel recycle household and lithium batteries?
The Big Green Box provides U.S. companies with an easy way to recycle their batteries and electronics. Companies pay $63 for The Big Green Box for Household Batteries and $165 for The Big Green Box for Lithium Metal Batteries. These prices cover all costs--shipping, handling and recycling.
The Big Green Box recycling facility is permitted by the EPA.

The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the Hynes Convention Center send their batteries to The Big Green Box for recycling.

Presentation to Hotel Staff: How to Save Money by Going Green

This free presentation helps people cut their utility, gasoline and other household bills by living a greener lifestyle. It's free for members. I have given it to staff at several hotels and to many other audiences.

The presentation helps align staff with the hotel's green program.

The session can last 15 to 60 minutes, depending on your time requirement.

Please contact me if you're interested!

Sanaa I. Pirani, Hassan Arafat, Gary Thompson, Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, September 28
The authors present a tool that helps hospitality managers purchase the right amount of food for meals and events. Effective planning reduces food purchasing and waste disposal bills and the environmental impact of wasted food.
The tool's seven measures:
  • post-consumer food-waste.
  • no-show's--when unexpectedly few people show up.
  • over-show's--when too many people show up.
  • a planning indicator that measures intentional overproduction.
  • a portion-size indicator, which measures per-guest consumption against expectations.
  • an economies of scale indicator.
  • a post-event indicator, which depends on disposal approaches.

Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center's Green Resume The author describes three kinds of air purifiers that are used by U.S. hotels:  HealthWay (PURE Global), Blueair  and  Innovaci.
