Physician & APP annual survey opens June 10-30

Why does Baystate Health survey physicians and APPs?

A message from Drs. Jobbins and Testo, Co-chairs of BMP Wellness Council.

Your voices matter and we want to hear from you. Taking just 15 minutes to complete the Press Ganey survey annually can have a profound impact on our organization. Here's why your input is invaluable:

Confidential Outlet: The survey offers a confidential platform for you to share your experiences and concerns openly. Your feedback helps us understand what's working well and what areas need improvement.

Insight into Team Dynamics: By participating in the survey, you provide us with current insights into team dynamics. This includes feedback on leadership culture within teams, departments, and entities, guiding us on where to focus our efforts for enhancement.

Employee Feedback: Your written comments provide detailed insights for leaders and the organization as a whole. These comments offer valuable perspectives that contribute to our continuous growth and development.

Impactful Data: The survey generates data specific to nurses, physicians and APPs, a few of our largest employee groups. This data is crucial for maintaining Magnet certification for BMC direct care nurses and informing decisions regarding new benefits or policy changes to support employees.

Diversity and Inclusion: We collect aggregate data related to various demographics such as age, tenure, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender. This information enables us to develop tailored strategies to enhance the experiences of all our employees.

Safety and Quality Care: Through year-to-year comparisons, we gauge employee perceptions regarding personal safety and the delivery of safe patient care. Your feedback helps us ensure a safe and supportive environment for both our staff and patients.

Rest assured, your responses are completely confidential. Press Ganey handles your data with the utmost care, ensuring anonymity at the individual level. Leaders only receive aggregated departmental data, protecting your privacy. Please note any written comments will be included in the departmental report.

Sensitive demographic information is utilized for comprehensive data analysis by our Team Member Experience Department and Human Resources partners. This information is not accessible to managers, preserving confidentiality and trust.

Your participation in the survey serves as a trusted means for Baystate Health team members to share their experiences. Together, we can empower our workforce to deliver quality, compassionate care every day.

Changes implemented or underway in response to feedback from the past year

Well-being Focus Initiated: Following the last Press Ganey Survey in 2023, Drs. Jobbins and Testo, as BMP Wellness Council co-chairs, were charged by Dr. Artenstein Chief Physician Executive and Chief Academic Officer, Baystate Health and President, Baystate Medical Practices, to seek more input and design strategies to address well-being. They have met with every department clinical chair, directors and all the service line leaders across BMP. Their discussions related to physician well-being gathered additional feedback, taking it to organizational leaders and ultimately helped BMP adopt the AMA’s Joy in Medicine framework. More will be shared in coming months, including a follow-up organizational biopsy which is described below. Their next step will be working with division chiefs/medical director levels.

Removing swiping: Many physicians have asked to remove the daily practice of swiping in. Baystate Health leadership listened and is currently working on a process change. It is anticipated this change for physicians and some others will take place next year, in 2025 in line with the implementation of new software. Unfortunately, the change can not be made immediately without major implications to employee pay but the good news is that a change is being planned.

Streamlining of Annual Required Lessons: Changes are being planned for 2025 to streamline the annual lessons, both in number and in content. A team is working to ensure regulatory requirements are met as the lessons are streamlined.

Organizational Biopsy of Well-being with the AMA

Later this year, we will be conducting an organizational biopsy through the American Medical Association (AMA) to assess Baystate's progress on our Well-being Journey. This initiative aims to delve deeper into our organizational health and well-being, furthering our commitment to continuous improvement. This will be done in parallel to our work with Press Ganey and your participation in both the AMA and Press Ganey surveys is an integral part of this process, as your insights contribute to our overall understanding of how we can best support each other and thrive together. Thank you for your ongoing dedication to Baystate Health's mission and values.

Thank you for taking the time to make your voice heard and contribute to our collective success!
