Keeping BHI Green and Clean

The Resource Conservation & Beautification Committee (RCB) has two important community initiatives this season. Operation Reforest tree sale is underway, offering live oaks, yaupon hollies, and wax myrtles for November planting. Orders close October 31, so be sure to reserve your trees soon to help grow Bald Head’s canopy. Since 2019, Operation Reforest has helped replace trees lost to storms, honor loved ones, and add greenery to BHA Common Areas. You can explore past plantings on our website. It makes a great gift!

The Fall Litter Sweep, co-sponsored by BHA, the Conservancy, and Simply Southern, on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot near the Maritime Market to pick up supplies and receive their assigned cleanup areas. Everyone should return to the Conservancy by noon, where the collected trash will be weighed and prizes awarded for categories such as heaviest load and most unusual find. Details.

Trick or Treat Island Style

Island Trick-or-Treating takes place October 25 from 1–3 p.m. Ghouls and goblins will be out in force. Thanks to the Education and Recreation Committee and all the residents and businesses who make this event spooktacular! Map available here!

A Wellness Haven in the Heart of Bald Head Island

When Katie Guthrie’s family purchased a building on Bald Head Island in 2016, they never imagined it would lead to a thriving wellness destination. But Katie saw an opportunity, one that aligned with her passion for hospitality and holistic well-being. Taking a leap of faith, she stepped in to run the spa that already occupied the space. Now, ten seasons later, Island Retreat Spa and Salon has become a trusted wellness hub for residents and visitors alike. Read more.
