WE Don’t Have to be Perfect; We Should Always be United!

"واعتصموا بحبل الله جيعا ولا تفرقوا"

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”

This ayah teachers us the significance of our unity and brotherhood as Muslims hoping to please Allah SWT.
The sahabah (Companions) were the shining examples and leaders that demonstrated such strong bond among themselves despite their disagreements. They raised above all differences and remained united. They were not of those who would sever relationships with each other or slander each other due to defiance of opinions or disagreements. Our Prophet (SAAW) was a living example of that verse. Being in a leadership position, he faced dire situations that even endangered his own life several times. Yet, he showed nothing but kindness, tolerance and respect back to his enemies. He used kindness to change the world and create legacies that continue to live with us today. It was his kindness that made one of his worst enemies, Sayyidna Omar ibn Al-Khattab, to be one of the greatest charismatic leaders in Islamic history, a khalifa, and one of the ten promised paradise. Such is the power of kindness, in which unity can be achieved and love can be spread far and wide.

There is so much we can gain just by uniting in khair (goodness). Our Prophet (saw) was a man of unity. He ensured that he spread love and kindness wherever he went, and just through these actions, he attracted millions of people to embrace Islam. As committed Muslims striving to always please Allah SWT, it is an obligation on us to stay united and continue to hold to the rope of Allah SWT. We should not break our relationships and ties for any reason. It is this disunity and division that
spreads hatred and animosity among people.

Let’s ask Allah SWT in these holy days of Ramadan to keep our heats steadfast on His path and spread love and peace among all. Ameen
