Feds Propose Opening Nearly All Federal Waters for Oil/Gas Exploration and Drilling

The U.S. Department of Interior released its 2019-2024 Draft Proposed Program for oil and gas leasing in federal waters last week. There has been considerable news coverage about the release, particularly since the 2017-2022 Program was just approved last year and because there has been bi-partisan opposition to the proposal by governors of several states in the past several days. The governors of Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia (by the governor-elect), Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island, California, Oregon and Washington are all opposed to drilling in federal waters off their respective coasts. Maine's governor is the only one who has expressed support for drilling off that state's coast.

Public comments on the draft proposal are due  March 9th. BHA and likely other Island entities will be providing comments on the draft proposal to the feds. More information will be provided in the coming weeks for property owners who wish to comment.

In the meantime, information about the Draft Proposed Program can be found by CLICKING HERE.

COMMUNITY NEWS/EVENTS
We Need Your Help When Dropping Off Debris at the Mulch Site

As one might guess, there is a significant amount of debris from last week's winter storm around the island. The Village of BHI and BHA ask property owners who drop off their debris at the mulch site on N. Bald Head Wynd to please drop it on the far side of the debris pile and not in or near the staked-out area, which is the location of BHA's expanded boat parking storage area. Contact Jeff Griffin ( jgriffin@villagebhi.org) or Carrie Moffett ( carrie@baldheadassociation.com) with questions.
Golf Cart Registration

It's the beginning of the year and that means it's time to renew your golf cart registration(s). The Village of BHI has made it easy for renewals through its web site. CLICK HERE to learn about the online registration process.

Carts that are registered for the first time must be registered in person at the Public Safety Department on Edward Teach Wynd. Afterwards, however, annual renewals can be done online.
