Paving Project Begins (Finally!)

BHI's long-awaited paving project kicked off this morning first by paving Lighthouse Wynd, the road that houses the Association, the Chapel, Old Baldy, Village Hall and the Island Package Center. The paving was originally scheduled for Fall 2018 but obviously Hurricane Florence had other plans. Look for the paving crew to lay new asphalt in other parts of the Island over the coming days.

Below is a message from Village Manager Chris McCall about the project:

Dear Residents, Property Owners, and Friends,

Barnhill Paving has started the paving project and is presently preparing to pave Lighthouse Wynd from the intersection of North Bald Head Wynd on down past the Association, Chapel, Village Hall, and IPC/Post Office to the intersection of Ballast Stone Alley.  With that in mind, please plan accordingly if/when you stop by IPC/Post Office (or any of the other locations along this street) to pick up your packages or mail for today.  This may require that you park along side the edge of the road along Ballast Stone Alley temporarily until such time the paving is completed.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this work in progress!

Island Service Providers List

Just a quick reminder that BHA maintains an island service providers listing for BHI property owners of individuals/companies who do work on the Island. Note: This is not an endorsement of any of the providers or their services; rather information from which property owners can begin to identify a vendor for work they want completed. Buyer beware...please make sure to request references and talk with friends/neighbors for recommendations.

"It's No Hassle to Build a Castle"
Family Sand Sculpture Contest
Sunday, May 26th; 1-2:30pm
Beach Access #42

Come join fellow islanders for some fun in the sun on Sunday, May 26th with BHA's premiere sand sculpture contest! Teams will have from 1:00-2:30pm to build their castles; contestants and observers will then have some time to take pictures as the judging commences. The competition will be just to the left of Access 42 in pre-marked plots; please be sure to park in the parking lot or have all four wheels of your cart off the road. We don't want anyone to get a parking ticket! All castles must be leveled off and any holes filled in to help our endangered nesting turtles by 4pm. There will be a limited number of spots available so we encourage everyone to pre-register with Susan Panousis at susan@keepsakerealty.com . There is no fee for our sand blast, but we do need each team to complete a form. This is the only sand castle competition for the Summer of 2019 so please join in the fun in the sun! There is no rain date, so we all hope for ideal weather conditions. See you there!

An Evening of Music and History of Native North Carolinian
James Taylor
Wednesday, June 19th; 7:30-9:30pm
BHA's Association Center

How sweet it is! Drive down a country road to join us on June 19th for a special two-hour presentation on the music of James Taylor. Bring your smiling faces to the Association Center to hear Freddie Kiger of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill tell the story of James Taylor whose formative years were spent in North Carolina.

Join us from 7:30-9:30pm as we spin the life and music of the five-time Grammy Award winner and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The presentation will include listening to James Taylor songs and Mr. Kiger will shed a little light on the stories behind the songs. Given the nature of the stories behind some of the songs and the length of the program, we suggest this event will be appropriate for ages 14 and up.

Tickets are $10 for those who sign up prior to the event and $15 at the door. Tickets are limited to 60 people; sales will commence on May 4th with a table at the Market, or e-mail Susan Panousis at susan@islandgopher.com . Credit/debit cards only; no cash please.
