Wildlife Overlook Fencing Damaged

BHA understands that some people are not pleased with the recently installed fencing at the Wildlife Overlook observation deck on Stede Bonnet Wynd. While not ideal, this action is necessary at this time to lessen the risk of a dangerous human/wildlife interaction at that location.

BHA recently received a report of damage to the newly installed fence surrounding the Wildlife Overlook observation deck. The damage will be repaired as soon as possible.

If you see anyone damaging the fence at the Wildlife Overlook, if you see anyone feeding or harassing an alligator/wildlife and if you see anyone fishing in a lagoon/pond anywhere on BHI, please call 911 to report it (tell the 911 operator that you are on Bald Head Island). All of these actions create a potentially hazardous situation for everyone on BHI and are unlawful. Spread the word! If everyone helps to prevent these situations, we lessen the chance of teaching aggressive behavior to alligators and wildlife - which impacts everyone on BHI, including the alligators and wildlife.
Beach Accesses

Do you know where all 34 beach accesses on BHI are located? Find this out and much more. BHA has a new BHI app - Easy mobile access... Easy navigation... Easy Island life. Go to www.BHAmobile.com on your mobile phone and save it to your home screen for easy access. Click here to learn more.

Looking for Volunteers

The BHA Social, Entertainment and Recreation Committee, in conjunction with the Old Baldy Foundation, is looking for volunteers to assist in cataloguing documents relative to the history and development of Bald Head Island. Neither minimum time requirements nor recurring involvement is required.

This may be a perfect activity for residents interested in the history of the development of our island; for something to do on a rainy day; or for teens and young adults looking for community service hours on their resumes, etc.  The only requirement is that volunteers have a smart phone on which they can download a scanning application from the iTunes or Google Play stores.

Anyone interest in volunteering a few hours should contact Elizabeth Kinney at
eckinney4@gmail.com or Susan Terrio at
terrio.susan@gmail.com  to schedule a time to receive a brief training session on how to catalogue.

At its June meeting, the Village Council increased the fine for underage driving of golf carts from $50 to $250. The increase was based on a recommendation received last month from the Transportation Committee. Note, as part of the text amendment, unlicensed or underage driving of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles was repealed from the local ordinance and is subject to state law and issuance of a state citation. These changes by Council are effective immediately.  CLICK HERE to see the resolution.

Re-CYCLE BHI Accepting Donations of Dollars and Time

In connection with Re-CYCLE BHI, Chapel volunteers are accepting cash donations every Sunday afternoon in front of the Market. The money will be used to purchase helmets, coats and other necessities for the underprivileged children who receive refurbished bicycles through the Bicycle Man project. Your $10 donation will buy a helmet and gloves. Please look for the volunteers from 4pm until 6:30pm. Also, volunteers are needed to man the table. If you can spare a couple of hours one afternoon, please contact Anne Rex (anne.e.rex@hotmail.com) or Gayle Sanders (gaylesanders@mail.com). Re-CYCLE BHI is the Chapel's 2018 mission project, collecting used bikes and providing other support for the Bicycle Man Project, which distributes the refurbished bikes to children throughout five NC counties, including Brunswick County.
