BHA's 2022 Annual Report,
Board Candidates, Voting
and Smith Island Social
BHA's 2022 Annual Report was mailed to members on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in a white catalog envelope. Included in the Annual Report are details about the Annual Meeting (on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 9:00am), voting, the proxy and information about the five candidates running for BHA's 2023 Board of Directors. On the front cover of the Annual Report is the member's unique voter registration code to use for online voting. Click the cover graphic at left to view the Annual Report.

BHA Board Candidates and Voting
Meet the 2023 BHA Board candidates! Five candidates are running for two open Board seats. Read their full biography questionnaires online HERE. Online voting is open now through Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at 4:00pm. All paper proxies must also be received by 4:00pm on January 25, 2023, in order to be counted. Voting on the day of the Annual Meeting will be via ballot (rather than proxy) using the same website and unique registration code. For online voting instructions, frequently asked questions and more, visit BHA's Annual Meeting, Voting and Smith Island Social web page (click the button below the Smith Island Social menu). For any questions, call BHA's office at 910-547-4676, ext. 21.

Recent Voting Questions
With many new property owners who are voting for the first time, there have been
lots of calls/emails with questions. To help our members, here are answers to some
recent questions:
  1. Where is my voter registration code? On the front cover of the BHA's 2022 Annual Report that was mailed to all members in mid-December in a white catalog envelope. Do not share your unique code with anyone. If you've misplaced the packet, contact the BHA office for your registration code at 910-457-4676, ext. 21 or Diane@BaldHeadAssociation.com.
  2. How does a Middle Island (MI) property owner vote in BHA's election? MI property owners have their own POA and are not members of Bald Head Association. Therefore, they do not vote in BHA elections.
  3. How do I vote on my boat slip? Boat slips are affiliated with the Yacht Club and are not part of Bald Head Association. Therefore, they do not participate in BHA’s elections.
  4. Does BHA's Board of Directors select the Board candidates? No. The Board is not involved in the candidate identification and selection process at all. Article 5 of BHA’s Bylaws describes the process for the Nominating Committee to identify candidates to recommend directly to the BHA membership for consideration. The Board is simply informed of the candidates’ names annually at its regular September Board meeting. In addition, any property owner can self-nominate with 15 owner signatures by the deadline.
  5. How do I vote if I have multiple properties? Check out this voting FAQ.
  6. How does the Board vote my proxy if I choose for them to vote on my behalf? Votes are approved by a majority of the entire Board at its discretion. Note that in BHA's Bylaws (Section II Article 5), "Members vote by secret ballot."
  7. What if I don't vote? If you don't vote, nothing happens. No one else votes for you.
  8. Can I vote in BHA's owner portal? No. BHA is utilizing the software Vote HOA Now for online voting for the 2023 Annual Meeting, not BHA's owner portal TOPS. Click the button below for the Annual Meeting web page with voting site link.
  9. Are there any write-in candidates, or can I nominate someone the day of the meeting? No to both questions. Per BHA's Bylaws, there are no write-in candidates nor nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting.
