PIRATE INVASION WEEKEND

August 1-3, 2025

BHI Pirate Invasion

Join us in celebrating the 2025 Bald Head Island Pirate Invasion! Watch for the pirates as they arrive on Friday. Saturday visit the encampment in Marina Park, listen to pirate songs and sea chanties, watch the sword fighting demonstrations and more! The sea battle will be at 3:00 at beach access #5 followed by a party with the pirates and a ghost walk. Enjoy breakfast with the pirates on Sunday morning. Pirates will be roaming the island playing music, brandishing swords and causing mayhem. These devilish characters are liable to pop up anywhere so be on the lookout and check out the full schedule of events.

ISLAND VOICES AND VIEWS

FINDING FOCUS ON BHI

When Larry and Nancy Gittleman first visited Bald Head Island in August 2023, they figured it would be a fun little day trip. They hopped on the ferry, cruised around in a golf cart, and soaked in the scenery. By the end of the day, Nancy was teary-eyed and thinking, “This is where I want to be.” Turns out, she meant it...Click here to read their story and Larry's tips for taking perfect pictures of BHI.

BOARD NEWS

JOIN THE BOARD

Got opinions? Make them count by serving on the BHA Board! It’s a powerful way to contribute to our community and shape the future of Bald Head Island. Read more on page 3 in this issue of Island Report or submit your resume by 8/4/25 to the Nominating Committee Board Liaison Steve Smalley.

MEETING RECAP

At the July 25th Board meeting, Bookkeeper Leigh Ann Fink shared that BHA is staying on budget and right on track as we look toward 2026.

Two property owners presented a proposed project for Board input.

The Board is aware of the communication issues caused by our current HOA management software, Enumerate. Executive Director Doug Jones has been working diligently to resolve these problems and the direct notification system has been turned off. Staff is evaluating alternative platforms that could better serve our community.

The next Board meeting is 8/22/25 at 8:30 a.m. in BHA's Association Center (111 Lighthouse Wynd) or via the Zoom link. The agenda will be posted on the website when available.

ARC UPDATE

2025 ARC REQUESTS BY TYPE (January - July)

Great news from your ARC team! With our crew now fully staffed, we’re hearing plenty of kudos about how much faster reviews are moving. Since January, we’ve already guided 216 project submissions through the pipeline! But numbers tell only part of the story. Every day our office buzzes with walk-ins, calls, and emails from homeowners, builders, and designers. Each question, big or small, sends us digging into guidelines and plans so we can give helpful answers on the spot. That ongoing back-and-forth is just as important as the applications themselves, and we love being here to keep your projects rolling smoothly.

FERRY SCHEDULE

The Summer Passenger Ferry schedule will be adjusted to change the current Friday and Saturday 9:30 p.m. departure from Bald Head Island (BHI) to 10:00 p.m. beginning Friday, 8/15/202,5 and Saturday, 8/16/2025. This change does not affect any other Summer Passenger Ferry schedule departures, the Employee / Contractor Ferry schedule, nor the Winter Passenger Ferry schedule. The NCUC order and updated schedule (beginning 8/15/2025) are available here.

HANDLING YARD DEBRIS

Help Mitigate Fire Hazards

As you travel around Bald Head Island, you may have noticed landscape debris piles on the roadside that have been there for an extended time period. Some debris piles have even been dumped on empty lots. Temporary debris piles left on your own lot for the Village to pick up are allowed as long as you notify them accordingly. Handling debris piles in the correct manner can help mitigate fire hazards. To request a pickup, call 910-457-9700, ext. 1000 or place a service request online (www.villagebhi.org and select “Service Request”).
