BHCC Meeting Information

04.16.2024 - Meeting Minutes

Hello, Incredible Community Members!

It is tulip season in the Valley! What is your favorite thing about this time of year? I love seeing our Valley through the eyes of visitors and seeing how excited they get. It reminds me how incredibly grateful I am to live in the beauty of the "Magic Skagit" every day.

Thank you to everyone who could attend our April meeting and our partner, the Burlington Library Public Library, for hosting us.

Anyone is welcome to attend a BHCC meeting, and you are encouraged to bring a friend.

Warmly,

Käaren Flint

Program Coordinator for BHCC

"The Tiger Hot Seat"

B.E. Well, students have gotten approval from Principal Vergara to move ahead with filming and doing live at lunch, their version of 'Hot Ones' with B-E Staff. "The Tiger Hot Seat" will be a time for staff and students to get to know one another by asking interview questions while progressively eating hotter and hotter chicken wings. If you are unfamiliar with this show, we encourage you to check it out. It will be AMAZING, and we are excited to have a fun way to build better relationships between students and staff.

Recent/Upcoming Trainings & Additional Information

This year's "Youth Got This!" summit was a smashing success!

We had 80+ students who came from all parts of our 5-county region.

The 2024 Summit allowed 7th - 9th-grade students to learn about healthy relationships, communication skills, and mental health coping strategies. They participated in learning sessions and outdoor team-building activities, learning practical skills they can use as they continue to navigate the world.

Community Closet at B-EHS Update

The closet is ready for students!! Thank you, Dayle and Tessa, for your hard work in getting us back up and running.

We will now accept donations and are working on a poster to help guide what we will and will not accept, such as items without rips or stains.

Below is the new poster in English. We also have and identical one in Spanish and they will be placed around B-EHS's campus.

We will also offer hygiene items through the closet and currently need laundry detergent and personal hygiene items.

Please contact Tessa or Käaren if you would like to donate items.

United General District 304 has six incredible pillars, each offering educational (free and low-fee) classes and programs open to the community.

All upcoming classes, such as Mental Health First Aid, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), Babysitter First Aid, Overdose Response, and Introduction to CPR, are offered alongside other spectacular opportunities. Click below for more information!

Donations and Fundraising

PayPal is LIVE!

You and your friends can now donate to BHCC via the donate page on our website!

The money collected will help pay for things the DFC grant doesn't allow and expand our ability to engage with the community. It will also help support substance-free events for B.E. Well as they develop those kinds of opportunities for local teens.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything mentioned above, please get in touch with Käaren or someone on the Leadership Team. We are happy to help!
