Village of BHI Election

Canvass Update

The Brunswick County Board of Elections completed its canvassing update on

November 17, following the municipal election. The update states, "In the Bald Head Island Council contest (Vote for 2), Scott Thomas received 106 votes, and Jerry Maggio and Virginia (Ginnie) White tied for the second seat with 102 votes each."

The canvas update continues, "According to GS 163-292, in the case of a tie 'the board of elections shall determine the winner by lot.' This determination cannot be made until after the deadline for candidates to request a recount expires on Monday, November 20, at 5:00pm."

The update notes that "the board will convene on Tuesday, November 28, to conduct any recounts and determine the winners in the contests with tie votes. Further details about the board meeting will be released next week." Click HERE for the full Brunswick County Board of Elections canvass update.

BHA's Association Center

Flooding Update

BHA appreciates your patience as we continue moving through the demolition and renovation process following flooding on the ground floor of the Association Center. While deconstruction and renovations continue, we urge members to stay away for safety concerns.

On the morning of November 10, staff found excessive water standing on the ground floor of the Association Center. Thankfully, with a fairly quick discovery, immediate recovery efforts began. The cause of the flooding is being determined, and BHA is working with its insurance carrier in handling these unexpected expenses.

Note that all events previously scheduled to be held in the Association Center are in the process of being temporarily housed elsewhere on BHI, with the gracious assistance of our Island partners. For the most updated information regarding event locations, check BHA's online calendar HERE.

It is our goal at this time to complete the renovations by the end of this year. BHA will send additional updates as available. Below are current photos:

BHA's Wildlife Overlook Improvements Are Completed

BHA has made a couple of improvements to the Wildlife Overlook to make it easier and safer for visitors at the location. Parking areas were added, and the existing retention wall near the structure was extended to the road to prevent erosion in the area. BHA sent out a Request for Proposals in August for the project, and Trinity Builders BHI was the successful bidder. To view additional photos of the completed project, click on the web page button below.
