From the Village's Public Information Officer-

Hurricane Dorian #15
6:15 p.m.
Dear Residents, Property Owners and Friends:
As of this report, there is still a power and sewer outage on the island.  Cell service has been unreliable but most carriers are now back up and running. (US Cellular is hoping to be back up early tomorrow). The Village has recently spoken with a Duke Energy representative and Duke is still making assessments of the area and working on the mainland outages that continue to impact areas in and around Southport and the island's service.
The Coast Guard approved a ferry run for this afternoon for Emergency Operation Center support personnel ONLY.  Village relief staff, the Damage Assessment Team (DAT), and the Village's debris contractor arrived around 1:30 p.m. today. Road clearing of trees and other debris, and damage assessments, took place today.  The damage assessments are windshield surveys completed that report to FEMA, NC Emergency Management, and Brunswick County Emergency Services the extent of damages sustained to improved property.
The preliminary damage assessments reported today from the DAT indicated very minor damage (missing roof shingles& loose siding) that was visible on a very small number of homes.  No major damage was reported.
State of Emergency and Mandatory Evacuation Amended
With the great work today of the EOC and support personnel along with the DAT, the Mayor has amended the State of Emergency proclamation as of 6:00 p.m. this evening rescinding the "mandatory" evacuation to a "voluntary" evacuation.  The voluntary evacuation includes a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.  The marinas will remain closed by Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. until further notice.
Citizen's Phone Bank
The Village continues to recommend that citizens use the Citizen Phone Bank (910) 454-4226 for all non-emergency questions.  The phone bank will be available to answer questions from 8:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. This is not a method to request house checks, sign-up for re-entry, or be added to the business list. This is also not a number to leave your status for families to call in and check on you if you stayed on the island. The Village will continue to answer as many questions as possible via the Village's Voice messages. Final re-entry decisions have not been made and will not be available on this line until an announcement is made via Village's Voice and Code Red.
Ferry & Marina Information
For the most up-to-date ferry schedule information you can visit their website  HERE. As stated previously, both marinas will remain closed by Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc., the owner of the two properties until the Village's State of Emergency is rescinded.
The Village will continue to inform you on the post-storm recovery. Follow the Village on Instagram HERE (villagebhi) to see photos and video of EOC activities and island conditions as recovery continues over the next few days. You do not have to have an Instagram account to see the Village's posts.  You can type in your browser and access all posts. We will post as much as we can.

Thank you,
