In honor of Mental Wellness Month, BHIPP has gathered information and resources relevant to supporting youth mental wellness and promoting mindfulness.
Mental Wellness Month was established to raise awareness about mental health disorders and reduce the stigma associated with mental health and treatment; it was also created to underscore the significance of integrating your mental and physical health to improve overall health and wellness. Mindfulness is an evidence-based strategy that has been shown to promote mental and physical well-being by focusing one's attention on the present moment nonjudgmentally (Dunning et al., 2019). Pediatric primary care providers can support their patients by helping to reduce stigma, introducing and encouraging the use of mindfulness exercises, and connecting youth to evidence-based mental health treatment.
