Maryland Mental Health Crisis

Resources for Youth

This month's BHIPP Bulletin is a contribution from Lily Stavisky, BA, BHIPP Outreach & Training Coordinator.

BHIPP has compiled a list of regionally specific mental health crisis resources for youth in Maryland. Pediatric patients experiencing a crisis often rely on their primary care provider for support and guidance. Providers are encouraged to assist patients who are experiencing a crisis by providing reassurance and support, assessing the situation, ensuring safety of the patient and others, and providing contact information for crisis resources. Crisis resources are available for anyone, anywhere, anytime and can include Regional Crisis Lines/Hotlines or Call Centers accepting calls and dispatching support when necessary. Mobile Crisis Response Teams will dispatch to wherever the patient is in the community, and Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Facilities provide short-term crisis stabilization services to patients of all ages. Share the following crisis resources with the patients and families you serve.

Statewide Crisis Resources:

1. National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 988 (English and Spanish)

2. Maryland Youth Crisis Hotline: 1-800-422-0009 (English and Spanish)

3. National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233 (English and Spanish)

4. National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453 (English and other languages)

5. National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-4673 (English and Spanish)

As always, if you have questions about the behavioral health needs of your patients, we encourage you to call the BHIPP consultation line at

855-MD-BHIPP (632-4477), open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, for resource/referral networking or consultation support.

We will keep you informed about all our services and training events through our website (www.mdbhipp.org) and monthly e-newsletters. Additionally, BHIPP is on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.
