WOLVERINE WEEK IN REVIEW

Oct. 5th to Oct. 10th, 2026

Boys’ Water Polo

The Bellevue Wolverines Boys’ Water Polo teams packed a lot of competition into the past week, with Varsity earning another league win and JV gaining valuable experience during a challenging three-game tournament.

On Tuesday, October 6, the Wolverines welcomed Shorewood to Woodridge Pool for their second matchup of the season. Varsity came out firing, jumping to a quick 4–0 lead in the opening stretch. After several substitutions gave the bench an opportunity to see game action, Bellevue lost some of its early momentum and Shorewood battled back, tying the game heading into halftime.

With the starters back in the pool for the third quarter, the Wolverines regained control. Bellevue’s defense tightened considerably, allowing Shorewood just two goals in the entire second half, while the offense rebuilt the lead and closed out a 10–6 victory.

The win gives Bellevue a 2–0 record against Shorewood this season.

Following the Varsity victory, the JV Wolverines got their own opportunity against Shorewood. Bellevue put in a valiant effort, but Shorewood’s JV strength and greater experience proved difficult to overcome, with the Wolverines falling 9–4.

Just a few days later, JV was back in action, traveling south to Curtis High School on Saturday, October 10, for the Puget Sound DII/DIII/DI-JV Tournament.

The tournament presented a new challenge for many Bellevue players: competing in a regulation-size, fully deep pool for the first time. Unlike pools where players can occasionally touch the bottom, a fully deep pool requires athletes to tread water or swim for their entire time in the game, adding another level of stamina and endurance to an already demanding sport.

Bellevue opened the tournament with another matchup against Shorewood, followed by a game against Curtis JV Blue team. The Wolverines continued to adjust and show improvement as the day progressed, even as the faster pace and deeper pool tested the team's endurance.

Their final game brought another challenge against the DII Rogers Varsity team. By their third game of the day, fatigue was understandably setting in, but the Wolverines continued to compete and showed increased awareness and understanding of the game.

JV finished the tournament 0–3, but the weekend was about much more than the final record. The team left Curtis with valuable game experience, improved understanding of positioning and play, and firsthand knowledge of the conditioning needed to compete for multiple games in a full, deep pool. Hopefully, they also came away having had a little fun along the way!

A Big Week Ahead for Bellevue

There won't be much rest for the Wolverines.

Bellevue starts the week on the road Monday, October 12, against a strong Gig Harbor team. The teams already have some history this season: Bellevue earned an 8–6 home victory earlier in the year and later edged Gig Harbor by one goal at the Yeti Tournament.

Then comes a special afternoon at Woodridge Pool. On Tuesday, October 13, Bellevue hosts Roosevelt for Senior Night, celebrating this year's seniors and their contributions to Wolverines Water Polo.

The matchup should be a good one. Roosevelt earned a 10–4 victory over Bellevue early in the season, but when the teams met again at the Yeti Tournament, the Wolverines flipped the script with an impressive 10–5 victory.

Senior Night begins at 4:20 p.m. at Woodridge Pool. With what looks like a beautiful afternoon on the pool deck, we'd love to see students, families, friends, and Wolverine supporters come out, cheer on the team, and help celebrate our seniors!

Go Wolverines!

Girls Volleyball

Bellevue Volleyball had a short week this week. JVC played a thriller of a seesaw match. Having started slowly and getting down early they battled to make the first set close.  Then they carried the momentum into the second set, winning that set handily. The third set was a nail biter ending in an exciting win giving JV the victory 2-1. JV also got locked in an exciting match.  Marked by long rallies, JV competed hard in all three games but unfortunately couldn’t come away with one losing 0-3. Varsity showed some grit in their match. After going down 0-2, Varsity found a second wind winning the 3rd set behind the potent serving of Allison. Varsity

didn’t quite have enough to sustain the comeback in the 4th, eventually dropping the contest 1-3.  With that match, our season is halfway done. Time is flying by. It has

been great seeing the improvement over the course of the season with all 3 teams and I am excited to see what’s in store for the 2nd half of Kingco. Next week we’re at Inglemoor on Monday and then at home versus Liberty on Wednesday. Both are important conference matches. Come on to support your Wolverines as we begin the 2nd half of our conference.

Go Wolverines!

Boys Varsity Golf

It was a big week for Bellevue HS Boys Golf, as they took control of the Kingco race with wins over Interlake and Liberty to move to 8-0 on the season.

The Wolverines started the week playing their best all-around match with an 180-203 victory against Interlake. Shooting 180 as a team is a fantastic score and it meant there was a lot of great individual play.

Boden Freeborn led the way with a 2-under 33. Boden bogeyed the first hole but made 3 birdies the rest of the way to take medalist honors. Gordon Rounds was right behind him with 2 birdies to shoot 1-under 34. Eric Kim continued his remarkably consistent play this season with a 35 that included 4 birdies! Rounding out the top 5 for the Wolverines were Eric Nguyen, who shot 38, and Wes Peters, who fired a season-best 40.

On Wednesday, the Wolverines took on Liberty at Overlake Country Club and walked away with a 194-211 win. Liberty had played all the best teams in the league to close matches, so it felt good for the boys to pull away with a decisive win.

Gordon Rounds took medalist honors shooting an even-par 35 on the strength of a birdie on the difficult par-4 4th hole. Boden Freeborn only had one bogey on his card, along with 8 pars on his way to a one-over, 36. Boden and Gordon have been so consistent this year...it's the 6th time in 8 matches that together they have finished first and second overall!  Edeun Park's 40, Eric Nguyen's 41, and Eric Kim and Wes Peters' 42 rounded out the scoring for Bellevue.

This week, we will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday vs. Highline at Bellevue GC. It will be a great chance to celebrate Gordon Rounds, Wes Peters, Jasper Liao, and Thomas Taylor. It will also be a chance to clinch a Kingco Championship with a win. Go Wolverines!

Boys Tennis

The Bellevue Boys Tennis team faced off against the top two teams in the Kingco League this week and competed with great effort and class.

On Tuesday, freshmen Jacob Feng and Wesley Han teamed up at #2 doubles versus Mercer Island and fought hard in the first set, eventually losing 4-6, 1-6. The Islanders swept the Wolverines to stay #1 in the Kingco standings and maintained their #1 state ranking.

On Thursday, the Wolverines doubles teams (1 Andy Peng/Daniel Pong, 2 Nicholas Tsiktsiris/Sena Uehara, and #3 Nathan Winget/Jeffery Lou) swept Inglemoor with outstanding teamwork and decisive net play. Freshman #3 singles Eyyupbeg Atajanov took Inglemoor’s Ely Lee to a third set tiebreaker.

After losing the first set 4-6, Atajanov dug deep and found his confidence and focus, winning the second set 6-4. In the third set tiebreaker, both teams lined the fences, cheering on their teammate in the warm October sun. Lee executed excellently, hitting several impressive winners as Atajanov fell 5-10. At the end of the day, the Vikings held on for a 4-3 win to continue their fantastic year, maintaining their second place standing in the league.

On Monday at BHS, the boys play a big match vs Interlake to decide third place in Kingco. On Tuesday, Bellevue will honor their seniors in the final match of the year vs Highline at home. The Kingco seeding meeting takes place Wednesday night, and standout representatives fromthe team will participate in the Kingco tournament starting October 19th.

Go Bellevue!!!

Girls Soccer

Bellevue Girls Soccer

Bellevue split our games this week, losing on the last kick of the game away at Lake Washington in the 2nd OT with a golden goal. Ouch. 0-1 defeat. However, we rebounded nicely against Eastlake at home on Thursday with a 1-0 victory. Unassisted goal by Aanya Laing '29 in the 72nd minute.

JV had a solid week, defeating LW 2-0 before battling to a 1-1 draw against Eastlake.

JVC dropped two tough games against Mt. Si 0-5 and Woodinville 0-6.

This week, Varsity and JV travel to Redmond on Tuesday, and Bothell on Thursday before hosting our Senior Night celebration at 7:30pm on Saturday, Nov 17th vs. Hazen (5:30 kick off for JV). Come help us honor Saleen, Mackenzie, Kasia and Elina on Saturday night.

Varsity Football

After a week off due to Hazen’s disappointing homecoming night forfeit, the Wolverines were more than ready to write another chapter in the Bellevue-Skyline Rivalry history.

On a partly cloudy Saturday afternoon, the Bellevue varsity football team visited the House That Mat Taylor built, in a battle of Washington football blue bloods. Unfortunately for the Spartans, their young team was far from up to the task. A 50-yard return on the opening kickoff from Trevon Barnes was the first sign of what was to come — a tidy first drive ending with an RJ Ward TD was just the start. Senior Cayden Thomason pulled down an interception minutes later that led to a Barnes score, and the game got ugly fast.

Interceptions, fumble recoveries and multiple efficient drives gave Bellevue a 38-0 lead at the break, and from there the youngsters took over and finished the shutout, 45-0.

The Wolverines will return home this Friday to face the Issaquah Eagles

Freshmen Football

Bellevue Freshmen Defeat White River 28-22.

Despite a last-minute schedule change, the Bellevue Freshmen football team responded with grit and determination, earning a hard-fought 28-22 victory over White River.

The Bellevue defense led the way, delivering timely plays throughout the game and coming up with three key interceptions. Kishore Daniels and Loyal Gibson each recorded interceptions, while Jashon Johnson electrified the sideline with a pick-six that proved to be a game-changing moment.

Another standout defense was Gabe Patton, who made the most of his first start at linebacker this season. Patton's physical play and effort helped Bellevue withstand a strong White River attack and preserve the victory.

While the Bellevue offense battled a tough White River defense and struggled to find consistency at times, the Wolverines remained focused and relied on their defense to stay the course. In the end, Bellevue's defensive effort was the difference-maker as the team closed out the win.

The Freshmen now turn their attention to Skyline, with kickoff scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 PM on the Plateau.

Come out and support our boys as they look to build on this momentum and deliver another strong performance!

Girls SWIVE – Swim and Diving

Bellevue Girls Swim & Dive kicked off the week with a 118.5–64.5 victory over Issaquah, carrying that momentum into the Mukilteo Invitational, finishing 1st out of 46 teams with 902 points, ahead of 2nd place Lakeside with 731 points.

The team captured 17 State-qualifying times across both meets. Mukilteo highlights include 1st place finishes by Kiki Pfeiffer in the 200 individual medley, Khloe Nguyen in the 100 free, and Natalie Chang in the 100 back, along with a tie for 1st between Claire Gao and Natalie Chang in the 50 free. Bellevue also took 1st in the 400 free relay.

Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding week and continued progress toward State!

Boys and Girls Cross Country

Monday the runners undertook some race-paced intervals, to help sharpen their internal senses of timing and ingrain running mechanics into muscle memory.

Tuesday was an hour-long easy distance run along the soft surfaces of the Mercer Slough trails. Students have come to realize after weeks of training that they can run much longer distances with the same amount of time without stopping and feel very comfortable while doing so. One might venture to say that their confidence in their respective abilities has increased over the course of the season… they were rewarded with a surprise visit from members of the xc boosters, bearing popsicles for everyone - thanks again, boosters!

Wednesday was an easy thirty minute campus run in preparation for a pair of events, the first being a Thursday meet on a warm sunny day at North SeaTac park in Burien hosted by Evergreen High School and attended by Tyee, Highline, Renton, Sammamish, and Interlake. The students were happy to discover a lovely green space filled with evergreens and deciduous trees (some with leaves beginning to change color), and flat dirt trails cutting through the woods and grassy spaces in between. The teams ran conservatively as a solid group at a selected pace, with multiple students running nearly identical times. One could have thrown a blanket at the finish and covered many of them together at once. Perhaps even more enjoyable than the solid run were the consistent presence of the jumbo-jet airliners floating overhead for their landings at the nearby airport, some appearing so close as to give one the impression that they could reach up and touch them with their fingertips.

Friday was another short easy campus run, rewarded with a pizza feed courtesy of our friendly booster club - thank you again, boosters!

Saturday brought the team to our third weekend invitational, the Hole In the Wall Invite at Lakewood High School in Marysville. The weather threatened to make the conditions less than ideal, and at times a brief shower opened up, but the course remained solid and free from any muddy spots, enabling all the competitors to open their strides and hit it all-out at goal paces. The JV squads opened the morning sessions with stellar performances across the board, with multiple brave performances rewarded with new season and personal bests. The hit parade continued into the afternoon as the varsity races yielded even more impressive results, as well as important lessons about racing in very dense, highly competitive fields and getting out well enough that you do not get stuck behind slower masses of people. 28 students ran personal bests and four season bests for the day, and everybody shared in their successes by supporting each other throughout the day - 13 hours total for those attending from start to finish! Another great day for our cross-country teams.

The students race next Thursday at North Bend’s South Fork Landing frisbee golf course in the Kingco Crown Division Invite with multiple Kingco schools, a great tuneup for the following week’s Kingco Championship.

It’s GREAT to be a WOLVERINE!!!
