Athletics and Activities – Assistant Director Introduction – Jordan Manteghi

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thursday and looking forward to the long weekend! I want to formally introduce myself and say hello! My name is Jordan Manteghi and I am the new Athletic Secretary! I am also the JVC Volleyball and Varsity Assistant coach at BHS and am entering my ninth year of coaching. I have a passion for all things athletics and appreciate the importance athletics and activities have on students. I was a multi-sport athlete in high school, playing volleyball, basketball, and track and field. I was also in choir for all four years. Now, I spend my time coaching, spending time with my family, dreaming of Disneyland, and growing my Lego collection.

I graduated from Walla Walla University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. While in school I was the Assistant Sports Information Director and transitioned to the Sports Information Director after graduating. I worked in that role for over 5 years, while also coaching elementary and middle school girls’ volleyball and basketball.

I recently transferred from Sammamish HS as their AP Secretary and am entering my second year in BSD.

I am so excited to be a part of the Bellevue High School community, and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you! Feel free to stop by anytime if you have questions or just want to say hi!

Cheer

It was a memorable Senior Night on Friday, and we thank everyone who helped make it such a special evening. The Wolverines capped off the celebration with an impressive 49-0 victory over Issaquah and now look ahead to next Friday's road game at Mt. Si.

Cheer is also gearing up for an exciting competition season. The team spent this past weekend working on choreography and preparing their routines for the months ahead. Their first competition of the season, the National Qualifier, will take place on November 7 at Juanita High School. We are excited to see the team's hard work and dedication showcased on the competition floor.

Boys Water Polo

Bellevue Boys’ Water Polo had a little bit of everything this week: a tough loss, a rivalry game, a second-half comeback, and a Senior Night win that made sure the seniors went home happy.

First up was Gig Harbor, a team Bellevue had already beaten twice this season. Unfortunately, Gig Harbor clearly remembered.

After Bellevue won 8-6 in league play and another at the Yeti Tournament, Gig Harbor came out determined to change the storyline. Bellevue struggled to keep pace and fell 16-9.

JV came out swinging after their weekend tournament and put up eight goals, the most this season, but Gig Harbor pulled away for the 13-8 win.

Thursday, however, belonged to Bellevue.

With Senior Night at Woodridge and rival Roosevelt in the pool, the Wolverines found themselves down two early and still trailing by two at halftime.

Then someone apparently informed the Bellevue defense that Roosevelt had scored enough.

The Wolverines didn't allow a single Roosevelt goal in the second half, erased the deficit, and pulled out a 7-6 victory to deliver the seniors one heck of a final home-game memory.

They evened the season series with Roosevelt at 1-1.

JV had a tougher night against a strong Roosevelt squad, falling 10-1.

Bellevue ends the week 1-1 and moves to 4-5 in D1, good for fifth in the standings.

There won't be much time to relax. Bellevue travels to Tacoma Tuesday to take on Curtis, currently tied with Bainbridge Island for first place, before heading to Tukwila Friday for a rematch with Kennedy Catholic.

The schedule isn't getting easier. But where's the fun in easy?

Girls Soccer

BGS Weekly Update.

Full game recaps here for those who love hyperbole and excruciating detail.

We had a week of mostly ups, and a few downs. Most importantly, our seniors played their last Kingco Regular season game on Saturday and won 6-0 versus Hazen. Our Senior Night festivities were glorious and honored Elina Wilson, Kasia Larsen, Mackenzie Tucker and Saleen Koszorus for their four-year contributions to the soccer program. On the field, Senior Saleen Koszorus scored four (4!) with fellow senior Elina Wilson and junior Lola Paget with the others. Assists to senior Mackenzie Tuckers, junior Serena Ngo, and sophomores, Maggie Peters, Ava Tiani-Jeremiah, and Hailee Middleton.

On Tuesday, we played our best game of the season, beating Redmond 6-0. Hat-trick for sophomore center-back Maggie Peters, with additional goals from Saleen, Ava, and sophomore Tanna Tsuchikawa. Assists to Saleen 2x, Hailee, and Lola.

In between our 6-0 victories, we dropped an inexplicable 0-2 game to Bothell. Enough said about that game.

Our JV team extended their seven-game unbeaten streak with a 4-3 win against Redmond, 2-1 victory against Bothell, and a 5-1 romp over Hazen.

Boys Varsity Golf

The BHS Boys Golf team finished off an undefeated regular season with a 185-269 win over Highline that clinched the Kingco Championship!

It was an incredible Senior Night as 3 of our Seniors recorded either career best or season best scores.

There was a 3-way tie for first place Eric Kim, Gordon Rounds, and Jasper Liao all shooting 36 for co-medalist honors. For Jasper it was his best season score that included 2 birdies. It was a perfect ending to Jasper's 3 years as a Varsity golfer. Eric Kim eagled the par 5 second hole, and that propelled him into first place, while Gordon birdied the 9th hole to jump into the 3-way tie.

Congratulations to senior Thomas Taylor who closed out his varsity golf career with a career best 38. And senior Wes Peters shot his season best score with a 39 to close out the scoring for Bellevue.

The Wolverines now head to the postseason with the Kingco Tournament on Monday at Snohomish GC. The postseason team of Gordon Rounds, Boden Freeborn, Eric Kim, Edeun Park, and Eric Nguyen will try to bring home a 3rd straight Kingco Tournament title.

Boys Tennis

On Tuesday, Bellevue celebrated its seniors and upperclassmen against Highline. Seniors Andy Peng and Steven Zhou were highlighted and celebrated. The Wolverines walked away with a 7-0 win, with Steven beating his opponent in straight sets, Andy/Daniel continuing their #1 doubles success, and junior Jun Choi getting his first Varsity win. Brothers Jeffery Lou/Hennry Lou and juniors Sky Ko/Jinue Kang teamed up once again for straight set wins. After the match, the boys enjoyed a potluck and open courts for their last match together in the regular season.

Senior Captain Andy Peng:

Senior Steven Zhou:

On Wednesday, league coaches convened for the Kingco Tournament seeding meeting. Andy Peng and Daniel Pong secured the #2 overall seed in doubles, while Wesley Han and Jacob Feng earned the #5 overall seed. Nicholas Tsiktsiris and Sena Uehara have the opportunity for an upset at #14. Freshman Eyyupbeg Atajanov, junior Roy Kang, and sophomore Roger Ma will represent Bellevue in the singles draw.

The tournament begins on Monday at 3:30 at Mercer Island. Come out and support the players as they fight for Bellevue during the postseason. Go Wolverines!!!

Marching Band

It was a busy week for students in the Bellevue Band. On Tuesday we had a 3-hour evening marching rehearsal where the kids were treated to hot chocolate from the concession stand. A big shout out to Alex, Karen and KC Shogren to make that happen.

Then on Thursday we hosted the WSU Jazz Faculty and their top jazz band. Our students worked with the WSU Faculty during an improvisation clinic after school, and then our combo shared a concert with them in the evening. Here is a picture of Ozzie Kato, Joe Hedquist, AJ Jandhyala and Rohan Pillai performing with Dr. Darryl Singleton.

Finally on Friday BHS Band welcomed 112 Chinook Middle School Band Members to join us at the Football Game vs Issaquah. This was our largest combined performance with CMS, and they joined us in the stands and then on the field as we played several hits by Michael Jackson,

Girls Lacrosse – Head Coach Introduction

Please join me in welcoming Tony D'Alessio as the new Head Coach of Bellevue High School Girls Lacrosse.

Coach D'Alessio brings a deep passion for sport and a long-standing commitment to growing the game at every level. As the founder of the Vandals Youth Lacrosse Program, Tony has been instrumental in building grassroots opportunities for young athletes, helping introduce countless students to the sport while fostering skill development, teamwork, and a love of competition.

Beyond his contributions to lacrosse, Tony is a strong advocate for educationally based athletics and the positive impact sports can have on young people. He believes athletics are an extension of the classroom, providing opportunities for student-athletes to become better, stronger, and more confident individuals. His focus on character, resilience, leadership, and personal growth aligns closely with our commitment to supporting the whole student.

We are excited for the energy, experience, and vision Coach D'Alessio will bring to our program as we look ahead to the 2027 season. Please join us in welcoming Coach D'Alessio to the Bellevue High School Athletics team and supporting him as he leads the next chapter of Girls Lacrosse.

Welcome to the team, Coach D'Alessio! Go Wolverines!

Boys Baseball – Head Coaching Introduction!!!

We are thrilled to welcome Stephen Englund as the new Head Baseball Coach at Bellevue High School.

Coach Englund is a proud graduate of Bellevue High School and the Bellevue baseball program, class of 2006. Following an outstanding high school career, he was drafted directly into professional baseball by the Washington Nationals organization and earned an opportunity to continue his baseball career at Washington State University on a scholarship.

While his accomplishments on the field are impressive, what makes Coach Englund an exceptional leader is his commitment to developing young people through athletics. Since concluding his professional playing career, he has dedicated himself to helping players grow into assertive, confident, and capable individuals. He understands that the lessons learned through sports extend far beyond wins and losses and play a vital role in preparing students for success in life.

Coach Englund exemplifies the values of educationally based athletics through the relationships he builds with players, the care he shows for their development, and his commitment to creating experiences that are meaningful, successful, and fun. His passion for Bellevue, his understanding of the Wolverine tradition, and his dedication to student growth make him an outstanding fit to lead our baseball program.

Please join us in welcoming Coach Englund back home to Bellevue High School as the next leader of our baseball program. We are excited for the future of Bellevue Baseball under his leadership.

Boys and Girls Cross Country

Thursday the cross-country team participated in the inaugural Kingco Crown Invite, consisting of 12 Kingco schools across the different classifications (2A, 3A, 4A; the reciprocal Crest Invite took place the day before). The racecourse was on the flat, manicured rough and fairways of the South Fork Disc Golf park in North Bend (on the way to Rattlesnake Lake), which, combined with the unseasonably warm, dry weather, made for some very favorable racing conditions.

In the shadows of Si and Rattlesnake Mountains, themselves lit up by autumn sun, and either hindered or propelled by strong and very warm summerish breezes, the students achieved 32 new personal bests, plus four-season bests before the fifth of five total 5k heats were done. A great tune-up before this coming Saturday's varsity Kingco Championships, followed immediately by the JV Invitational, both at Lake Sammamish State Park.Monday the runners undertook some race-paced intervals, to help sharpen their internal senses of timing and ingrain running mechanics into muscle memory.

Girls Volleyball

Wolverine Volleyball enjoyed another exciting and successful week. We had matches where there were many lead changes. We had

matches where we had to come back from an early deficit to win. We had matches where, despite an early lead, held on to win. All told,

we were 6 points from a second weekly sweep. First up on Monday was Inglemoor. JVC in an epic battle that started with a 25-14 first

game and then followed by a 29-31 2nd game. JVC closed it out in the third convincingly taking the 3rd set 15-4 and the match 2-1.

Not to be outdone, JV also played an heart stopper. After being down 20-22 in the first, JV stormed back with a 5-1 run to end it and win

25-23.  Again, with great resilience, in the 2nd JV down 21-23 and 23-24 came back to seal the deal winning the 2nd 26-24. With the match

in hand, JV dropped to the 3rd 24-26. Varsity, after a slow start, dropping the first 2 sets, showed a lot of grit and fought back to force a 5th set.

Unfortunately Varsity wasn’t quite able to hang on dropping the 5th 9-15.  Leading the charge in a near comeback were Kathryn’s 14 kills, Cassy’s

13 kills and Ellie’s 40% hitting efficiency.

On Wednesday, we were at home against Liberty. In true fashion, JV and JVC got locked into long rallies, heart pounding defense and stellar

serving. JVC preserved their unblemished conference record of 8-0 by winning their match 2-1. JV took their match 2-1 to move their record to

7-1 and retain the top spot in their standings. Varsity, ever improving, had a nice consistent performance across the board taking the match 3-1

behind Kathryn’s 12 kills and 45.8 hitting percentage, Cassy’s 11 kills and Grace’s 40% hitting percentage.

Varsity Football

Senior Night for Bellevue football was Kingco matchup with the Issaquah Eagles, reigniting a conference rivalry that hadn’t been played in nearly 20 years.

After celebrating the seniors, the Wolverines forced a turnover on Issaquah’s first offensive play and on the ensuing play, junior RJ Ward got Bellevue on the board with a long run. This pattern would repeat itself four more times in various fashions as the Wolverines took a 35-0 lead to half (4 Ward runs and a pass from senior QB Kason Carta to junior TE Marley Crosby).

The second half started with another quick Bellevue stop and the following offensive drive was shortly thereafter capped by a long Tre Barnes run. On the next drive, junior Carmelo Madden carried the ball into the end zone and the reserves took over. 49-0, the final.

Bellevue travels to Mount Si this Friday to finish off the regular season.

Freshmen Football

BOUNCE BACK WEEK! 🏈
