WHAT A GREAT WEEK TO BE A WOLVERINE!!!

GIRLS SOCCER

Bellevue Girls Soccer

Varsity

We began the week with a comprehensive 4-0 victory against Woodinville. Goals in the 39th minute by Saleen Koszorus '27 (assist Aanya Laing '29), 41st minute by Kasia Larsen '27 (Saleen), 42nd minute another by Kasia (Saleen), and debut varsity goal in the 72nd minute by Hailey Middleton '29 (Aleah Lombardo '28). However, the clear highlight of the week was our Homecoming win against Newport 6-0. Goals by Mackenzie Tucker '27 (Saleen), Saleen PK, Ava Tiani-Jerimiah '29 (Lola Paget '28), a second by Mackenzie (Saleen), a second from Saleen on a free kick, and finally a debut varsity goal from Elle Koszorus '29 (Ava) from a corner kick.  Full game recap and photos from Woodinville here, and Homecoming against Newport here.  Most importantly, a huge thanks to the band, dance team, cheerleaders, ASB leadership, parents, and students who cheered, sang, chanted, heckled (in a funny way) and generally made Friday a fun night for everyone. Video highlights of everyone who participated are here.

JV

Woodinville 1-0 victory, goal by Doris Wang (unassisted). Took the lead in the first half and fought hard to the finish to maintain the lead and take the win. Newport 4-0 win.  Goals (assists) from Doris Wang (Jiarui Gu), Logan Moco (Mia Brillantes), Doris Wang (Sarah Lin), Mia Brillantes (Mia Franze). Great team win.

JVC dropped a 0-3 decision to Eastlake on Wednesday.

CHEER💙💛💙💛

Homecoming looked a little different this year, but it was just as memorable and full of fun! From celebrating with the football team at team dinner on Thursday, to the assembly Friday morning, the rally Friday night, and wrapping up the festivities at the Homecoming soccer game, it was a busy and exciting few days for our cheer program.

A huge thank you to everyone who stepped up, pitched in, and helped make Homecoming such a success. Your energy, teamwork, and support helped create an unforgettable experience for our athletes and school community.

We're excited about what's ahead and look forward to seeing everyone at Skyline next Saturday! 💙📣💛

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball Weekly Summer (9/28 - 10/4)

This past week was a strong week for Wolverine Volleyball.  On Monday we were at Highland High School where all JVC, JV and Varsity scored 3-0 sweeps.

All three teams took advantage of their main strength which was serving.  Many points were scored either directly off the serve or led to situations making it easier for us to counterattack and score.  On Wednesday we were at home against Interlake in another important conference match.   Once again JVC, JV and Varsity took advantage of strong serving leading to sizable number of transition attack points.  In the Varsity match notable performances were Kathryn Huhs’ 10 kills 1 error on 25 swings, Cassy’s 6 kills, 2 errors on 15 swings and Ellie’s 5 kills 1 error on 12 swings.  By the end of the evening, another school sweep had been completed. Monday we are at Mercer Island High School which marks the end of the first half of the season.  The Kingco Conference has parity among the top 5 teams and it’s anybody’s guess who comes out on top at the end.   We’ll be making a strong push for it.   So come on out and support your fellow Wolverines.  Hope to see you at Mercer Island HS.  Games are 5:15pm for JVC and JV and 7:00pm for Varsity.

Go Wolverines!

BOYS WATER POLO

The Bellevue boys’ water polo team wrapped up September with plenty of exciting action. On Sunday, September 27, the Wolverines kept their winning streak alive at the Yeti Tournament. They opened with a 7–3 win over Newport, then got some payback against Roosevelt with a convincing 10–5 semifinal victory. In the championship, Bellevue edged tournament favorite Bainbridge Island 10–8 to claim first place in the 18U division. The weekend showed that the team’s hard work is paying off—and the pieces are coming together at just the right time.

After only one day to rest and recharge, Bellevue hosted a strong Curtis team Tuesday at Woodridge Pool. The Wolverines jumped ahead early but soon ran into foul trouble, forcing them to dial back their physical play. Curtis took advantage and moved in front. Bellevue kept fighting and scored twice in the fourth quarter, but the comeback fell just short in a 6–5 loss.

Even in defeat, Bellevue’s defense gave fans plenty to celebrate. The Wolverines have held most opponents to fewer than 10 goals and limited Curtis to just six—their lowest total against a division 1 opponent this season. With a lighter schedule ahead, Bellevue will have more time to fine-tune its game.

Next up: Shorewood at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at Woodridge Pool. Come cheer on the Wolverines!

BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Cross country focused on race-specific intervals on Monday.  With no weekday race last week, the team was able to spend more time on recovery in preparation for Saturday's Twilight invite in Everett.

Those not racing Saturday took to the track on Friday in order to test themselves for two miles at goal 5k (3.125 miles) race pace.  The hope is that these students discovered a better understanding of where they are now and where they can go in the weeks ahead.

Cloudy morning skies gave way to brilliant sunshine by the afternoon as the bus pulled into Everett's Legion Memorial Golf Course for Saturday's Twilight Invitational.  This new venue for the event - quite lovely with its emerald lawns and mix of evergreen and deciduous foliage - provided new challenges for students as the course proved to be deceptively demanding, with many rolling hills, twists, and turns to break up their rhythm as well as a slightly uphill finish on the final 250-meter stretch to curb their momentum.  Students nonetheless met this challenge and ran near to their season bests and learned even more important lessons about competing not just against the clock but with people, staying focused on and in contact with the groups of runners they aspire to race with, and passing as many bodies as possible before reaching the finish line.

This week's events are Thursday with multiple Kingco schools at North SeaTac Park hosted by Evergreen HS; and the Hole In the Wall Invite Saturday at Lakewood HS in Marysville.

BOYS GOLF

The Wolverines Boys Golf team continued to roll this week with 2 wins over Kingco opponents, including a 197-204 win over Inglemoor. The Vikings were the preseason favorites, but Bellevue handled adverse weather and took down Inglemoor on their home course. Boden Freeborn birdied the first hole and never looked back taking medalist honors with a 37. Eric Kim was right behind him shooting a 2-over 38. Thomas Taylor, playing in his first match of the season, gave the Wolverines a huge lift by firing a 40 that included multiple clutches up-and-downs. Wes Peters had his best match of the season with a 41, while Gordon Rounds and Edeun Park shot 41 as well. It was a solid team effort in the wind and rain that put Bellevue in the driver’s seat of the Kingco race.

The next day Bellevue hosted Lindbergh/Renton under sunny skies, and the Wolverines went LOW in a 173-243 win. Gordon Rounds fired a career-best 33 by birdieing holes 2, 6, and 9 to secure medalist honors. Right behind him was Boden Freeborn who had 2 birdies on his way to a 1-under 34. Both Edeun Park and Eric Kim shot even par 35's, and Eric Nguyen shot a career-best 36 to round out the scoring for BHS. Also, a special shout out to Charles Mboggo for his career-best 40 as well. That's a lot of career best days for the Wolverines who moved to 6-0 on the season!

DANCE TEAM

BOYS TENNIS

The Bellevue Boys Tennis team went 2-0 this week with wins over Sammamish and Liberty.

Versus Sammamish, the sun shone down after an afternoon downpour the day before that postponed the match. The Wolverines hunkered down and swept the RedHawks 7-0 in both their Varsity and JV competitions.

Versus Liberty, the Wolverines came home with a 5-2 win. Wesley Han played a gutsy, back-and-forth grind of a match against Liberty’s #1 player, Alex Karnes. After losing the first set, Han found his confidence and control, taking it deep into the second set. Freshman Jacob Feng at #2 and freshman Eyyup Atajanov at #4 both handled their matches with a cool yet competitive demeanor. Bellevue swept doubles with three new partner combinations. Senior captain Andy Peng teamed up with sophomore Daniel Pong for a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at #1 doubles. Juniors Nickolas Tsiktsiris and Nathan Winget dominated 6-1, 6-1. Junior Jeffery Lou and sophomore Jonah Chianglin—freshly brought up from the JV squad—found their chemistry and aggressiveness in the second set, cruising 6-3, 6-1.

On Friday and Saturday, Bellevue was one of eight of the state’s top programs invited to a double’s invitational at Newport High School. Bellevue was the only 3A team in attendance. The two doubles teams chosen to represent Bellevue were Andy Peng/Daniel Pong and Jacob Feng/Wesley Han.

Peng/Pong fought valiantly in a hard-nosed battle against Skyline’s top doubles team. In the first set, they traded blows until a 6-6 score triggered a first set tiebreaker. Advay of Skyline began to find his big serve and quick hands at the net. Skyline won the tiebreaker 7-4 and rode their momentum to a straight-set win. Han and Feng faced the #1 seed of Middleton/Tiku and were overpowered by the Eastlake duo’s combination of power and skill.

However, both teams bounced back and won their second matches. Peng/Pong dominated against Eastlake’s #2 team, 6-0, 6-3, with Peng owning space in the middle of the court for aggressive net putaways. Han/Feng showed a ton of confidence and heart in a win vs Lake Washington’s #2, fighting back to win in a third set tiebreaker after losing the first set.

Feng/Han eventually fell to highly talented Redmond duo, yet displayed growth in their mental approach and doubles strategy. Peng/Pong, after winning the first set, lost to Lake Washington’s #1 in the third-set tiebreaker. The match was a back-and-forth battle with fantastic serving and net play by both teams.

This was a great event to build momentum toward the Kingco postseason tournament. The team looks to continue their competitive season next week against Mercer Island and Inglemoor.

FRESHMEN FOOTBALL

Bellevue Freshman Football Bounces Back!

After a tough 0-2 start, the Bellevue Freshman Football Team bounced back in a big way with a 28-6 victory over a talented Eastlake squad.

It was truly a team effort and a special night as we said goodbye to one of our beloved teammates, Ezra Fegauiai, who is moving back to Texas. Ezra has been a valued member of our football family, and we wish him nothing but success in his next chapter.

Leading the way for Bellevue was Jashon Johnson, who scored three touchdowns in spectacular fashion. Jashon found the end zone on a punt return, a touchdown reception, and a long touchdown run that sealed the victory over the Eastlake Wolves.

The Wolverines showed resilience, energy, and teamwork from start to finish, earning a well-deserved win on the road.

Next up, Bellevue takes White River home on Monday at 5:00 PM. We hope to see our Bellevue community come out and support these young athletes.

Fill the stands and bring the energy!

Let's Go Bellevue! 🏈💙💛

It’s GREAT to be a WOLVERINE!!!
