WOLVERINE WEEK IN REVIEW
September 7th to September 12th 2026
| | |
The Dance Team started our spirit season by learning a few routines that will be showcased during football halftime and in the stands throughout the game! We learned a lot and got to know each other and even had some fun along the way with spirit days. Tuesday was Bellevue day, everyone looks good in blue and gold! Can't wait for our first performance on September 18th!
Dance captains: Desah Blair and Ahyoung Kim
Dance Officers: Yingyuan Zhou and Emeline Weiss

This past week, we had a wonderful week of practice and JV and Varsity got to play our first matches. Our primary focus is to get 1% better each day and to get things in place as we progress through the season. To help us with that, we brought in guest coach and my mentor, former University of Washington and Notre Dame head coach Jim McLaughlin.
For one week, our athletes and coaches got an experience you couldn’t get anywhere else. Coach McLaughlin’s 30 years of experience helped our athletes and coaches develop our training mindset, culture and methods.
On Friday, JV and Varsity played their first preseason matches against Wenatchee. It was exhilarating seeing both teams' joy
in competition. Our primary goals were to see where we are with our development and continue to improve. JV played a spirited
match losing 1-2. Varsity competed hard against an experienced team that placed 3rd in last year's 4A state tournament. Our goal
with this preseason match was to get everyone’s feet wet and see what training has stuck and what hasn’t. Varsity lost the match 0-3.
However, the experience is helping us chart our course over the next week.
Next week, JVC, JV and Varsity are on the road at Bothell and at Eastlake, Wednesday and Thursday respectively. JVC and JV are at 5:15pm and Varsity is at 7pm. Both are non-conference matches and additional opportunities to improve. If you’ve got time and can make it out, we’d love to have a little Bellevue contingent in our corner.
Go Wolverines!

Cross Country is off and running…
The boys team will look to its returners in the senior, junior, and sophomore classes to help lead the team, while some exciting newcomers will certainly look to make their presences known.
The girls team will look to its junior and sophomore classes to help guide the team to success, while new runners from multiple classes find their respective ways to the front.
Cross country is unique in that everyone does the exact same event - 5,000 meters (3.125 miles) of racing - so everyone understands what each other is going through. Everyone in years past has done a fantastic job of supporting each other and building an environment that people want to be a part of. The torch is passed to this new group to make of it what they will. The coaches are looking forward to helping them on their way.
Preseason 2-mile Jamboree at Lake Sammamish state park Thursday 9/10.

🏈Bellevue Freshman Football — Monday Night Opener
The Bellevue freshmen are fired up for their first game this Monday versus Kennedy Catholic. They’ve put in the work all week, stayed locked in, and they’re ready to compete.
We hope to see everyone in the stands at 7 PM for a great night of Monday Night Football and to support these young athletes as they kick off their season.
Let’s pack the stands and bring the energy. Go Bellevue!

We had a tremendous week and captured our first Kingco win with a 184-188 victory over Interlake. Playing at Tam o'Shanter CC where Interlake seems to upset a better team every year, the boys pulled away in the last few holes to secure the win.
Senior Gordy Rounds led the way with an even par, 35 that was highlighted by a holing a bunker shot for eagle on the first hole! Sophomore Edeun Park had a career-best 36 that consisted of 8 pars and 1 bogey. Eric Kim and Boden Freeborn had solid rounds, each firing a 37. Sophomore Eric Nguyen tied his career high with a 39 to round out the scoring for the Wolverines.
We jump right back into the fire with a match against the rival Mercer Island Islanders on Tuesday at Twin Rivers. Last year we played amazingly well on the 8th and 9th hole to pull off an incredible comeback win over MI, and hopefully we can have a similar result this week.

The Bellevue Wolverines Boys Tennis team has been working hard, coming together as a team, and improving every day. Juniors Jeffery Lou, Nathan Winget, and Nicholas Tsiktsiris continue to show--alongside excellent tennis instincts--humble leadership, fantastic effort, and a positive attitude. Sophomore Roger Ma has flashed a fantastic serve while sophomore Daniel Pong has played high energy, relentless tennis. Sophomore Louis Zhao has shown outstanding improvement over the offseason, and junior Jinue Kang has played strong and steady tennis. Sophomore Sena Uehara is a tough competitor with a high motor. Freshmen Wesley Han and Jacob Feng continue to grow into the program while demonstrating promising skill and potential. And fresh from the Lone Star State, freshman Eyyupbeg Atajanov has competed against some of the team's best players, hoping to make an impact. Due to an overnight International School trip, several JV players--including juniors Roy Kang and Sky Ko, sophomores Micah Cho and Jonah Chianglin, and freshman Kevin Zhao--will be joining us at practice next week and will get the opportunity to compete at the Varsity level again Sammamish next Thursday. The team is anxious for competition, but the long weeks of productive practice will pay off as the season unfolds. Go Bellevue!

The Bellevue Wolverines Boys’ Water Polo team is jumping into the 2026 season with numerous returning players, plenty of varsity experience, and a large incoming freshman group ready to discover that “just one more lap” is rarely just one more lap. The veterans bring leadership, game awareness, and chemistry; the freshmen bring enthusiasm!
There are new coaches on the pool deck, too. Head Coach JT Dugan and Assistant Coach Elliot Goldstein are both University of Washington water polo players with years of water polo and swimming experience. In other words, they know the game, they know the water, and they will definitely notice if anyone tries to skip a swim set.
Team captains Sol Edwards (Sr.), Jackson Franck (Sr.), and Kaleb Thomson (Jr.) bring experience, energy, and the important leadership skill of knowing when to focus, to provide an inspirational quote, and a good laugh. They are excited to build strong rapport across the roster, welcome all the new players, and make this season one the team remembers for more than chlorine hair.
Bellevue dives into Washington State Division 1 play on September 12 at the Varsity Curtis Jamboree, where the returning and incoming players, and new coaching staff will get their first chance to put everything together against strong competition. It is part early season test, part team building exercise, and part opportunity to remember which teammate packed the extra snacks.
With experienced players setting the pace, a large freshman group bringing fresh energy, captains committed to competition and fun, and Coaches JT Dugan and Elliot Goldstein calling the shots, and hopefully making them on weekend for UW, the Wolverines are ready for a memorable fall. Bring on the goals, the saves, the close games, and the unmistakable aroma of chlorine. The 2026 season is here.

The Bellevue varsity football team opened their 2026 campaign at Highline Memorial Stadium against the 4A Kennedy Catholic Lancers. It was a game with more than a little familiarity — Kennedy runs the Wing-T and is led by former long-time Bellevue coach Pat Jones. The two teams have also held joint spring scrimmages in 2 of the last 3 years.
Unfortunately for both offenses, neither defense was fooled by the crisscrossing running backs and misdirection that frustrates most teams. Instead, both teams traded short drives for most of the first half, before Kennedy finally captured a 7-0 on a screen pass before half time.
In the second half, Bellevue woke up, finding their offensive rhythm behind Junior RBs Trevon Barnes and RJ Ward (plus a big play from Senior TE Calvin Ferguson) — both Barnes and Ward found the endzone in the second half thanks to some hard running and great blocking. On the defensive side, the stifling play continued, aided by interceptions from Seniors Mose Kalepo and Kaden Kooner.
The game ended with two long Bellevue drives, bleeding the clock to take home the 14-10 victory.
The freshmen team will face Kennedy on Monday evening, while Varsity’s next action will be heading down to the Puyallup Vikings on Saturday night.

Cheer had a great weekend — the team enjoyed performing at Friday’s assembly and cheering at Saturday’s game against Kennedy Catholic. It was a perfect fall afternoon with a strong crowd in the stands.
Next up is Puyallup at Sparks Stadium this Saturday, and we’re excited to keep the season moving.
And don’t forget — our first home game is Friday, September 18th at Bellevue. Mark your calendars!
