This Saturday's Homecoming game will be the latest contest in the long-standing football rivalry between Ballard and Roosevelt. Since 2008, the annual BHS vs. RHS matchup has been called the
Anchor Bowl.
Ballard and Roosevelt are almost directly across from each other on the Seattle city grid -- NW 65th Street vs. NE 66th Street -- with Green Lake "anchoring" the two schools in the middle, so the schools decided to amp up the crosstown rivalry by giving the game a new name and a trophy to go with it.
The winner of the Anchor Bowl receives a large anchor to put on display at its school. This year, both teams come into the game at 3-2, ready to fight for one of the top spots in the Metro league Sound division.
Come cheer on the Beavers as they take on the Rough Riders this Saturday, 5pm, Memorial Stadium! See you in the stands!
