Greetings Beaver Fans!
We had another action-packed fall season at BHS as things are starting to get back to normal. These teams had lots to celebrate and share with the Beaver Nation!

From Head Golf Coach Scott Cachopo:
The Golf Team welcomed two new coaches this season Scott Cachopo, Head Coach and Assistant Coach and former Ballard Golf team member, Jordan Dale. We had a great first season and our athletes made a lot of progress. With a big Freshman class, our future looks pretty bright and several of our Freshman class are continuing their education by taking golf lessons which will enhance their abilities for the new season. The Golf Team ended on a high note as we had four boys and two girls make it to the Metro Playoffs. Two boys made it to Districts and one qualified for State as an alternate. Unfortunately, we
lost several players from an already small girls team but are actively looking for more players for the 2021/2022 season.

Congratulations to our Boys Ultimate teams on taking the 1st place Varsity and 2nd place
JV Spirit awards! Varsity ended their season in 6th and JV finished in 3rd place overall. It was great to see our players back on the field and we are excited to turn our attention now to our Winter Mixed League. For the latest on BUF and the upcoming girls Spring season,

From Co-head coaches Neal Howard and Darrin Ganyard:
The Cross Country team wrapped up the 2021 Season at the State Championship meet on November 6th in Pasco. Individual state qualifiers Jack Rousseau (11), Dexter Stevens (10) and Emme Rousseau (10) all finished within the top 85 runners in the championship race. The women’s team qualified for the District Championship meet with a 6th place finished in the competitive Metro League. With a young core of runners on both the men’s and women’s team the future looks bright!
End of season awards went to the following runners:
- Most Improved - India Waters & Ronan Manning
- Coaches Award - Dexter Stevens, Hudson Hobbs & Holland Young
- Top Runner (MVP) - Jack Rousseau & Emme Rousseau

From senior captain Ani Haug, girls’ soccer:
After some of the most competitive tryouts the Girls Soccer Program has ever seen, all three teams had incredible seasons. The JVC team welcomed Coach Dave to the program this year, who made practices with the C team super fun and brought them to a record of 5-2-1. With an exciting last-minute win against Garfield, Coach Clonch and the JV team finished 6-6. Varsity started the season strong with a 5 game undefeated streak, ultimately losing some of the final games to very strong opponents. The team entered Metro League Playoffs after finishing fourth overall in the league with a regular-season record of 5-3. Varsity ultimately lost in the quarterfinals of the playoffs to prep who went on to finish 2nd in state. All the girls put in so much effort this year and should be so proud of their hard work. Being back in person at school allowed much team bonding and helped to make this program a community. We hope to continue this momentum into an even better season next year. A big thank you to our seniors Ani, Virginia, Bella, Bronwyn, and Jemma.

From Head Football Coach Ross Humphries:
We are incredibly proud of the 2021 season! Our Program GPA was a 3.25 at the mid-season grade check which gave us over a 3.0 GPA for the sixth year in a row!! We were also able to play a full season without any setbacks due to Covid!
We played in the Mountain Division of the Metro League for the second year in a row. Our division is considered the hardest in the state and possibly in the entire Pacific Northwest! Unfortunately we fell one game short of making the playoffs, but we won our last game against a solid 4A program!
Our Program was well represented on the All-Metro MountainTeam! The selections were voted on by all of the Coaches in our league; Coaches are unable to vote for their own program. Click the link to view our honorees!

We are indebted to our Seniors! They definitely did not get a typical high school experience but bought in to our program from day one and did a phenomenal job leading our program through a short off-season and many other challenges.

Despite losing so many Seniors and great leaders the future is bright for Ballard Football! We will return roughly 60 players who are committed and are eager to put in the work that is necessary for success! We expect to have an incredible season in 2022!
Thank you all for your support of Ballard Football!

Girls’ swim and dive had some great performances this year! At state, sophomore Claudia Yovanovich was second overall in the 50 freestyle and fifth overall in the 100 free. Junior Clementine Curtis also had a monster performance, placing 4th overall in diving. Expect to be hearing about both these athletes again next year!

With so many different volunteer groups working to support BHS students, we know things can get confusing. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the ABC.
What exactly is the ABC?
The Ballard High School Athletic Booster Club is a volunteer group of parents working together to support, promote, and advocate for all BHS athletes. We believe quality athletic programs enrich the high school educational experience. Our focus is on programs that benefit all athletes at BHS, and we are especially interested in promoting school-wide community and helping remove barriers to play. Learn more about the ABC here.
Ok, so what does the ABC do?
The ABC Board meets monthly with the Athletic Director to make sure that our efforts align with BHS Athletics values and goals. These meetings are open to everyone and we welcome you to join us!
One of our most important jobs is maintaining financial records and managing bank accounts for all BHS sports teams, so that teams do not have to maintain individual non-profit status and coaches and team parents are not also required to be bookkeepers.
We also:
I want to support BHS athletes! What can I do?
-
Sign up for an ABC membership every year. Your membership fees directly support the projects listed above.
-
Buy and wear Beaver Gear, especially when you are out supporting our Beavers at sporting events.
- Plan on attending the various social and fundraising events we host throughout the school year. Help us build community while we celebrate our athletes!
- Become a team parent, or offer to help your existing team parent -- volunteering to help out with a team's administrative, fundraising, or communications tasks means that the coach has more time to focus on his or her athletes.
- Make a direct donation to your team!
